Religion is a means of contacting God, if you believe in God, and if you believe that something created this Universe. If you don't, and want to just exist, then fair enough. But JJ's post wasn't as silly as you lot are making out-if one DOES believe the world was created by a being, then surely an established religion with claims of being inspired by God would be a good place to start to find out about this Creator, and even perhaps, purpose to life?

Pandemona:
1) No where in my post did i say religion isn't important.

2) Religion gave us christmas, yay. Religion also gave us about half the wars in history. It gave us persecution of "witches", gypsies and what not.

So in conclusion, religion gave us a lot of things, good and bad.
I'll leave it to you to decide just how many good things it gave us, compared to the bad.

CS2X >> I do believe in god, but the more popular ways of believing in him (I.E. christianity, judism, islam) are primitive, and have many faults and contradictions to reality in them. So I don't accept any of them as my way of believing.

Yeah. Sometimes people refer to previous things I've said, or established beliefs I've had/have when replying to posts, and that's annoying too. Don't proclaim people as hypocrits or get pesonal or anything in debates, and only talk about what somone's said in a post. Or something...Yes and.

If you believe in god, then don't you believe he'd make us have a yearning to understand his/her nature more? And also, wouldn't this god want us to know anything about him/her? Maybe through religion, this occurs. Otherwise, when we want to contact this "god", we won't know how, or weather we really are-because there is no foundation or authority behind it (like Mohammed or Jesus).
Just an idea.

Indeed, the secularization of the Christian Church in Europe has been growing ever since the second world war, and can be attributed to the growth of science, medicine, and a media-orientated post-modern world.

Erm, Islam is newer then Christianity. It's the most modern religion.
And your argument for the fact there is no God is very deep.

It's also impossible to improve he doesn't exit, as Gustav said. Don't brand people as "idiotic" just because they make a perfectly valid point that doesn't agree with you.

I don't believe in God, but I know that I can't prove he doesn't exist. It's all subjective.

Wrong, Sikh is more modern, probably the most modern one is Baha'i, if you don't count the revival of Wicca and the sort.

Also, Chasidim are not nearly as "primitive" as the stereotypes say.

Lastly Kingpin, if you can't respect people's believes this is not the place to be.

Therefore he MIGHT exist.
Maybe he's hiding under a rock, and he doesn't want you to see him?

You're saying you can't prove the negative, so how do you know it is true, if you can't prove it? you said it yourself.

i personally find it hillarious when people think they actually have a clue whether god exists or not. There's no way ANYONE can know, you're just a kid ffs.
(Not that all those adults who preach in the name of god know shit about him either)

God may not exist to you, but to those who seek after him/her/it and have faith, there are many experiences to tell of, and to these people, God is very real. Axx would be better at explaining this I imagine-if only he was here.

God is not a "negative" in my opionion, just as ghosts or spirits or other such things are not. But they're not positives either, because their only backing is PERSONAL testimonies, and they can not be proven scientifically.

Your last bit about adults is very silly imo. Can you prove they know "shit" about him? Not being bias towards any religion here-but whatever guise God chose to reveal himself in, the people who have spent time in that(those) respective religion(s) do know about God.

No I cannot prove that.
But that's the whole point, no one can prove anything on this matter.

But can you prove soembody who claims to have met god is telling the truth?
Ofcourse you can't.

The part of my post which you quoted was saying that i believe most of the people who claim to have come in contact with god are either insane, or liars.
That may be silly of me, but i believe in it very much.

Now you KNOW I didn't say that, so what's the point of asking? -_-

Answer: NO, not all christians muslims or whatever are insane or liars, since not all christians muslims or whatever claimed to see god.
Did YOU see god? no.
Did I see god? no.
Did HE see god? no.

Surely.

----

There's a difference between believing in god, and claiming to have met him. Obviously. And i'm not going to explain something so simple again, read what i say more carefully.
