Well unlike in LBA2, LBA1 autosaves your game at different points into one file, so you don't really get to choose your saves at all, you just play through the game and it saves for you.

i ment that there is the option of backing up the save so if i lose and die i wont start from the begining... but i dont seem to get how the backing up works and i mess up all my save files

In the option menu there's a part: Saved game management. There you can copy a savegame and give it a name like "Backup #1", or something else.

You can continue to play with your normal savegame, but when you lose too many lives or want to play things again you can start your backup savegame.

Luckily for PSX LBA players, that is not a problem

I don't even understand why you worry about backing up savegames. Once you die, you ressurect with two clovers (I think) and pleantly of health and magic. I for one, wouldn't even care to backup places.

Indeed, who the hell really cares anyway?
I didn't see it as a real problem.

In some parts if you die and come back you get hindered greatly. For example, once I died in the cloning centre when I was still wearing the prisoner's clothes. I came back at the beginning of the island wearing those clothes and was rather stuffed...

Don't copy/load saves, thats pointless. Keep one save game, and use that. It automatically saves you when you enter certain screens, etc.
