Question Playing LBA and LBA2 with gamepad.

I'm about to buy a gamepad for my pc because I found it fucking easy to play videogames. I had planned to play most of my games with the gamepad, but suddenly I asked myself: What about LBA? I know, let's ask the MBN members.

And that's what I wan't to know. Can I play LBA and LBA2 with a gamepad?

I know LBA doesn't have a control configuration, but maybe someone can make an addon for LBAWin? And can I configure LBA2 to play it with a gamepad?

Thanks a lot.

I set up LBA1 to play with a gamepad, you'll need to download some sort of app that will let you set the gamepad buttons to individual keys (I can't remember the name of the program, sorry) but I think the joysticks couldn't really be set as anything so you had to play on the anlogue pad. Anyway, the whole thing was rather awkward to play, I wouldn't recommend it.

So the PSX ver. of LBA is shitty to play? 'Cause i wanted to buy it, but if it's hard to play with a joypad, then buying it is worthless for me.

LBA wouldnt be very good with sticks because the game is designed for digital movement, not analogue.
Hence using an anlogue device feels very odd.

A dpad is probably better in this case, as thats basicaly quite close to keys.

But what about using the left keys? (the gamepad is like a playstation 2 one) And what about making an addon to LBAwin so we can configure the controls of the game to have new expiriences of gameplay?

LBAWin offers a control mode where Twinsen moves according to the screen and not his own position.

This option is mostly implemented to be used with digital paddles (not analog ones yet) for which direction are mapped to direction keys, because LBA wasn't designed to be played using a paddle or joystick and it's almost non-playable in standard mode.

Yes, that's what I said, the analogue pad.

Really?
I thought the analog was the sticks with 360ยบ rotation.

Oops, I mean dpad...
Dunno why I did that twice.
Still, pad, not stick (or analogue stick).

On the d-pad, it's hard to move into only one direction, usually you move into two directions at the same time.

We don't have LBAWin source code, although someone made an executable where you play with the mouse (its in the modifications forum).

No idea, but remember you can configure all keyboard controls in LBA2 in a menu inside the game. Without using any patches or so.

OK, I got my gamepad and tried playing lba2 with it. It's complicated but it was easy with some practice. Now can somebody help me configuring the controls to play lba1 with my gamepad?

Use LBAWin, load your game or start a new one. When you're in the game, press F7, and the LBAWin settings should pop up. Go to the Controls tab and select "Use screen relative movement".

the gamepad controls are bad with the magicball in the steamversion. How was this handled in the playstation version?

From what I recall, same as the PC, you have a key to throw the ball and that's it...What's slightly different is the mode selection, all four are each binded to the keys on the back (L1 ; L2 ; R1 and R2).

so you need to press forward all the time. Whereas now on the gamepad, pressing left makes twinsen run left.

a well, ps controls should be used for the gamepad

The idea is great the only problem is that we can't control the sensibility of the stick.
I found it too awkward even when being gentle with the sticks.
