Strange idea... (F.P.P.A.W.F.B.T.B.V.)

Hello!
I was playing LBA2, when I hit on an idea: to make LBA2 First-Person-Perspective-Adventure-With-From-Behind-Twinsen's-Back-View. Try it out for yourself: when you are outside, during pressing enter as fast as possible, try to go, run, turn around... The game looks then a bit more interesting. Unfortunately, the speed of the game drastically slows down.

I know more or less what it should be done, to make the game doing that without pressing enter. The first, it must be changed the fragment of programme, where the game checks if the enter key was pressed, to make the game "thinking", that the key was pressed every time. The second, it have to be made some corrections in game's engine, in order to make the game keep its normal speed.

Unfortunately, I know programming in assembler almost at all, so I don't know what exactly has to be changed. Nevertheless, the idea is interesting, don't you think?

Maybe a patch for LBA2 that could make Yazor, would set that dynamic camera....it's sure it would be better, but at the base LBA2's engine isnt made for that.
We can hope the engine will be enough changed to allow that.

hey, I always did that too

A short name for First-Person-Perspective-Adventure-With-From-Behind-Twinsen's-Back-View is a 3rd person game. (which LBA2 is already, but you mean with a fixed cam, kinda TombRaider/Max Payne style).

Yeah, I think that would be really cool.

Sounds cool...

but if you don't want to get technical, do like so:

In an episode of the popular TV show, The Simpsons , Homer Simpson (not the MBN member but rather the animated character ) becomes drastically overweight and is forced to work at home. Getting tired of simply pressing "yes" or "no" on the keyboard, he used the famous "dipping bird" (ya know, the ones that go up and down in a glass of water) on the keyboard. It worked well until near nuclear meltdown. Oh well. Its an idea. Just have it stuck on the enter key.

The problem with that (besides the obvious ones ) is that the drinking bird needs to dunk it's head into water. You can't actually have it repeatedly tap something. Once the head of the bird dries out, it won't tip anymore.

Sadly, art did not immitate reality in that case.

Another issue with the Enter thing is that, doesn't it reset Twinsen's animation as well? So if you're running, it resets the animation mid-stride, interrupting your motion. So you'd also have to prevent the animation from being reset...

There was a thread about this some time back, sounds like you got a good idea Another solution would be to take your little brother/sister and demand them to keep on pressing the enter button. You'll keep a decent framerate

I don't like it .... you would only see Twinsen's backside ... the scenic camera is better then a following camera, for some parts of the game a following camera would be nice , but overal it would suck...

it would not necessary suck.
in heavy metal fakk 2, for example, the camera's fixed behind the person. there is a button, with which you can look around, but still in third person view. that way you can see the front too (nice if you use nude-skins )

It wont suck if the camera is up and not too near of Twinsen, and if it can change of wiew, you see, the camera is in some places far of Twinsen, on special wievs, but it rests quite centerd on him and knows when it has to change of wiev whithout letting Twinsen be on the extrem edge of the screen.

And some games and the camera always on the back of the character, but it wasnt boring because of that...

If you poush the enter key too match, your visual framerate is too bad to well play. But I used systems like that to have a super skill in Final Fantasy 7 : I modified a physical game, with a true engine, and I let it turn over my keybord. A piece of it pushed "enter" each 2 seconds, and I blocked some keys with objects. Like that my characters ran in round in a country, met lots of enemies and fought with them automatically ( myt characters made basically heavy damages jsut with swords, and I had a spell to resurrect them automatically if they died, until they had mana). Like thta they become ultra warriors , level 99 or like that

Easy... evrything will be OK, don't do anything recklessly... it's only an idea

The camera can be set higher or lower (PgUp, PgDown), and pressing enter doesn't change its altitude (in any case, I didn't mean to pressing enter itself, but I wanted to explain "what I am talking about").

In fact, I don't think it would come to be. I think, it needs too many changes in game, but it's worth trying...

I find that's boring to have to always tip enter to well see what Twinsen goes to. It should be dynamic, but not as in an action game : the camera must be more far of Twinsen, and keep different wievs according to the place, the important objects of the ground...
Leviat : a 1rst person shoot on LBA is in progress (LBA-DM)

I've checked it out: pressing enter doesn't reset Twinsen's animation, but only slows it down a bit.
Of course, the "improvement" like that shouldn't be made permanently.
And what is "LBA-DM"?
