I agree with Lawrence - its like the 3DS. Poor start, but possible to recover from.
Nintendo still has a heavy price advantage over the competition too.

So it really depends what they will show in 2 hours...
Well the PiiU has the same fundamental problem as the wii, it ain't going to be running the elder scrolls 6 and pals any time soon.

Controls are just fine - only thing it lacks is analogue triggers really. They certainly arn't any less "precise" then anyone else's.

I believe Twinsan's argument is that the WiiU lacks third-party support (like the Wii did, largely), limiting its appeal to 'hardcore' gamers. I don't know if that's the audience they're targeting though. I think Ninty is trying to reach out to 3rd parties (ex. with AC: Black Flag coming to WiiU) this console gen, but I don't think a 'hardcore' gamer has only one console/gaming outlet anyway.

I fully expect to purchase a WiiU for Ninty 1st party games, just like I did with the Wii, while having another console (or PC, this gen) for 3rd party titles. I may get a PS4 once they're dirt cheap for Sony 1st party titles, but there aren't many I'd miss other than Uncharted and Ratchet & Clank.

Rereading his message, I think he might be talking about low graphical capacities...

It would be nice if Twinsan would clarify, but this statement leads me to believe (with a specific reference to Bethesda) that he's talking about lack of 3rd party developer support, something the Wii had difficulty with.

I don't see why graphics would be a problem with the WiiU, it outputs 1080p if I'm not mistaken. No, it doesn't have amazing graphics processing, but being able to output HD resolution is still a plus and corrects the error from last gen.

Well, I think it's probably just not the right console for you, and that's fine.
When I buy a Nintendo console I'm fully conscious that they always get the worst third party support and the least "cutting edge" graphics but as I've mentioned before that is a non issue for PC + Nintendo gamers, therefore I don't mind.

Nintendo consols from the Wii have been more oriented towards family/social games, I'd say it's the good approach. Hardcore gamers have PCs anyway, where you can mod content. Huge dvantage over consols.

That is also true. I don't care much for the excessive catering to "casual" gamers last gen but I think it makes sense for them not to compete with the other two consoles when it comes to uber graphics and multiplat titles, in fact I think the Xbox and Playstation are already very redundant as is when it comes to specs... and that's without counting PC.
The point I'm trying to make is, Nintendo carved themselves a comfortable niche where they're not really competing against anyone because what they offer is different from other consoles and at a fairly attractive price point.

The other reason why they aren't competing against the two others is because they are game makers before anything else, when they make a consol, it's to release their own games on it. That's why they have less third-party developpers than S&M.

I've been mostly disconnected from modern advances in gaming. I don't own ANY current generation system (not even a Windows PC, lol). I've been happy playing all those Virtual Console games I downloaded for my Wii at the Wii U's launch date (currently working my way through Wonder Boy in Monster Land, that's a tough one. ) And I'm happy that Portal is finally (at least in Beta) available on Steam for Linux, I got to complete it on Sunday.

Now I'm waiting for Valve to port Portal 2. And I hope Planetary Annihilation becomes something good. Sadly, Mojang's Scrolls game is currently not (no longer?) aiming for Linux.

While we're on the topic of DRM:
Sonic's instructional video of how to share games.

I lol'd with the video, and I agree with most of it. The past generation's consoles would sell themselves, and had great titles. Now games need all that marketing, consoles fight each other without realy inovating and we hardly get new titles (maybe on in a while)

Indeed. If its as long as Xenoblade, its a system seller to me.
I love massive, imaginative seamless landscapes to explore - having a crazy fantastic scifi plot with lots of twists is the icing on the cake.

Other then that nothing else grabs me as a must have as such - but Wonderfull 101 has potential. Also, Pikmin3 Id pick up at some point.

Portable front looks a bit more rich for Nintendo.

New Pokemon getting good press about its online features:

Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds:

Still not 100% convinced of that style, but I love the ability to turn to a flat picture.

Mario & Lugia Dream Team:

Top of my "want" list for the 3DS.
The other games were fantastic, so looking forward to this.

Also, I love this Smash Bros poster:

I don't think that "power" fits the game well. They could make, maybe, a whole new game based on it, but I can't see such thing sit well in TLOZ games. Its too... diferent, maybe. It may be a good feature, and I can only find out playing, but I'm realy skeptical about it

I say the more different they make their games, the better it is. Sure, some ideas will flop, but others will be good ! It's certainly better than not doing anything...

I cannot agree more with that, the more diversity the better. But, for me, they could have come out with something much better than that power...

*shrug* I like that power.

Certainly better then what passes for fresh ideas in their "new" mario games. (a catsuit ..really?).

But... I liked the catsuit...

Being able to pounce on enemies sounds so fun
But the catsuit is obviously not creative though.

Exactly, they tend to present side-features as main ones. Like being able to use the old sprites in cave story 3D
