Twinsunica wiki?

I actually made a wiki some time ago, but I was figuring out how I could quickly insert/convert all current articles in a fast way, and if I could redesign it.

Main plus points are: you don't need an admin page; anyone can edit/add stuff instantly; it's very flexible.

You can see it here... http://twinsunica.waxo.nl/

Don't mind the text there too much, especially the first few paragraphs.

Any thoughts?

That's great! * ChaosFish registered as "Fishos"

Now everyone will be able to contribute easily, but perhaps you should still limit the editing permission for registered users only?

Also do you think it could have a Twinsunica skin?

Great stuff!

Eh yeah, I was planning on redesigning the caboodle, I was just figuring out how. Also don't add too much (or anything) yet, I'm trying to insert the current contents automatically.

It's currently more of a test, see what it can do, how easily it could be adapted to our current method of writing articles, etc.
Feedback is welcome.

Is there no way to fix the admin panel?

The style of our official Twinsunica website is so much better. Unless we can change the template so that it looks like that of our official web page, I'm going to stick with the plan to fix the admin panel (if that is physically possible).

Very very nice, but:

I find this a minus actually. The text inside the Twinsunica currently is quite proffessional (well, not exactly, but still, lots of thought was put into it), I don't want some twats coming there and writing whatever they want.

Also, if you could make a style similar to the current one, it would be awesome.

Btw, just a question. If someone register in that, could it delete all content?

Of course it's all restorable, but I don't really feel like cleaning after the mess some people might leave. I think only the current administrators (i.e. wacko, Lightwing, D'Sparil, Snapman and me) should be able to edit stuff there, while others may only post in the Discussion pages.

Vandalism is a big issue for Wikipedia, although it's appearently controllable, seeing how it's rather succesful and professional even though anyone can edit all pages. There's a page with an overview of all changes that have been commited, and an administrator can revert any changes.

It should be possible to force signing up before someone can edit pages, and in that case it's easy to see who did what, and ban a user if he vandalizes. Without signing up this is also possible, but you need to rely on banning IP addresses.

It should also be possible to only let admins change stuff, which would also have the desirable effect. Letting only them do this and let everybody else post their ideas/comments in the Discussion pages sounds good to me actually.

Thanks for the explanation

Maybe with the old Twinsunica style it could be perfect, but with time we'll see if its great or no use this engine instead.

Anyone can make stuff, only admins can "confirm" stuff. And no changes can be made to confirmed stuff without an admin re-confirming it.

imo, that is the best system

By the way, will it also be possible to have the side index we currently have?

Not sure. WikiMedia (the actual script all Wikis run on) isn't really made to support hierarchical/recursive page management as far as I know, so it would have to be emulated manually. Then again, a true hierarchical structure isn't really encyclopedia'ish, as a lot of subjects often fall under several sections.

I'm actually surprised the current Twinsunica doesn't really have this problem, everything is mostly fittable in 'boxes'.

hmm...your getting into the exciting new world of semantic database's there.

That is database's where anything can be related/linked too any other thing.
Not sure if there any systems out there to do it easily, but you see similar thinking behind many neat things (http://www.airtightinteractive.com/p...g_browser/app/)

One day semantic data base's will practically be the internet..these are just the first few "playfull" systems.

Comming from someone who's set up and run a Wiki, it wouldnt be worth it. Since the Twinson universe is only so large and detailed the all the information in the twinson universe would eventually be in the Wiki, and there would be no point in it anymore.

The reason to have a Wiki is so that when new information on a subject (whatever the wiki may be about) the site creators or moderators dont have to reaserch, and enter the data, its much quicker for the masses to do it. In general, having thousands of people collaborating on a subject is better then just 20 people, especially in a fast paced information highway like the internet.

Since the Twinson universe (when I say universe I mean the story, charecters, information about the game universe) isnt expanding (hopefully it will someday) it makes no sence to have a wiki. Especially because the upkeep of a wiki is enormous.

What with spam, hackers, and worms going around the internet *looking* for wiki's that would be a really good reason to not have a wiki too, but also the wiki program is taxing on servers.

Personally, I'd rather see the admin panel fixed. Even if that takes a while.

The website template is just so much better looking.

wing - I know what you mean, maybe you're right, but remember that "wiki" doesn't have to look like wikipedia.

We have a wiki at work, and it doesn't look like Wikipedia.
