Model format

I have looked at the model section of the RMP and have noticed that some models have clearly visible polygons that make it look like average 3D games graphics. Is this just what the model looks like in real time rendering or realistic rendering? Is this because the file is saved as 3DS? i heard that saving 3DS files convert the whole model to polygon mesh, in doing so straightening all smoothed surfaces and making them look coarse instead of smooth. Is this what the end result of 3DS files are? or are they repaired later to it's original shape?

3DS Files can store smooth services fine, if you see visable polygons its just the models fault.
None of them are nesscerly final, remember.
Generaly we prefer 3DS Max *.max format, to keep the stack in tact, but with so much different software being used 3DS is more compatible.
Smoothing objects later is fairly easy anyways

Most of the models I get from other softs are rather low poly and rough, but when I convert them to max to merge them in the scenes, I oftenmeshsmooth them so that they look high-poly and without visible polygons

Goobles - please retry to send a nurbs model to me, it should work eventually.
