The City of Ember is blatant plagiarism.

The whole premise, even the job that the main kid gets, is the same as in a Russian book called "The City on top" - or something like that, by Kir Bulychev. It was nver translated into english.

And the story there was A LOT more interesting and dramatic.

For instance, in ember they have these huge bugs and animals and they wonder about them, and it's not really explained...
In the book by Bulychev, they lived so long underground that they themselves become smaller. And as the main character explores the pipework and then older tunnels he finds rooms and furniture that are a bit too big.

Still, ember was fun.

I dought its plagiarism. At least, specific plagiarism.
The idea of humans building an arc/back-up society underground has been used in countless sci-fis. As is the idea of giant insects.
The idea of shrinking is also common, but not in that way, that sounds quite good book.
The idea of shrinking society deliberately, for various reasons (consumes less resources, population can fit in a smaller area etc), I have heard before though.

Of course, in combination it might be plagiarism, but I suspect it was more just a hotch-potch of common scifi/fantasy ideas.

I enjoyed the film a lot because it had a real oldschool children's adventure movie...where its more about wonder/discovery then battling big evils.
Its also the sort of post-apoc setting I actually find interesting. Rather then the normal ruins and shanty-towns.

There's too much specific stuff in that movie. Like the failing generator, the boys father, the fact that he gets to work in the pipeworks despite the fct he wanted to work on the generator, the mayor who's "set on dogma", the boy looking for a way out of the city through ancient tunnels etc.
And I did not mean that giant bugs say that he plagiarized a different book. It's the fact that that whole motive just gets dropped so suddenly and doesn't really fit the story.

Sorry, but the book and the movie based on it ARE plagiarism or AT LEAST "heavily inspired". There's just too much coincidence here. Get over it.

Maybe. Havnt read it.
However, its very easy to make something look like plagiarism by looking at selective similarity's rather then the piece as a whole.
"the fact that he gets to work in the pipeworks despite the fct he wanted to work on the generator" sounds very suspiciously similar, for example. Couldnt argue there.

However, " the mayor who's "set on dogma"" isn't really like the movie.
The movie I saw the mayor couldn't care less. He was practically yawning though the ceremonies, clearly just going with the flow of what's been handed down. He didn't believe a word of it, hence ensuring his own survival (if you could call that surviving).
Of course the major/guy in charge that only cares for himself, is also a longrunning cliche.

If it was plagiarised, incidently, then it was the book City of Ember (by Jeanne DuPrau) plagerising, not the film anyway.
As the film was based on a book. (that also had sequels)

I really like the visual style of both games, they remind me of the third Monkey Island.
It's a shame Lucas Arts didn't continue with that style instead of moving to awkward 3D.

IGN Review of Mario & Luigi 3:

"Easily best in the series thanks to its focus on a completely outlandish script and the epic battles."
9.5 "Incredible"

I want this, now. O.o
(I don't take everything IGN says word for word but they're always fast on giving reviews and at least fairly accurate, so ... I want this .)

Id be astonished if its as good as Superstar Saga was.
But even at 1/4th as good it would still be a must have.

I never felt the need to own Partners in Time. I borrowed the game from a friend, finished it and I don't think I'll want to come back to it.

Partners in Time was clearly rushed. Too short, too easy, hardly any minigames and little diversity.
Superstar Saga must have been at least 4 times as long :P

They did fix a few things from Phantom Hourglass. You no longer have the backtracking dungeon, and you no longer have to draw circles with the stylus to make Link somersault.

Dante's Inferno

In 1300, Durante delgi Alighieri wrote a trilogy of peoms titled "The Divine Comedy."

700 years later, his masterpiece is turned into a "God of War" knock off with more promised gratuitous violence and "dark" themes.

http://www.dantesinferno.com/home.action

Instead of being a quiet reserved man who just hates the Pope, Dante is transformed into the modern video game badass motherfucker with a scythe, which he uses to slice and dice enemies ala Kratos. The guy even looks like him. Beatris is no longer a guardian angel but a soul trapped by the Devil or some typical demon baddie, ala Prince of Persia.

Go check it out. It's gonna be a great game involving all your favorite cliches.

That doesn't sound very interesting... But if it can run on my Pentium 4 GeForce 7800, why not.

Face of Mankind just went Open Beta a few days ago.

For anyone willing to try it out, which I most definitely recommend, be sure to check out the tutorial that can be found here, or if you just want to know more about the game in general before trying it out. This tutorial can also be found when installing the game. It is quite heavy though, with all chapters lasting for a total of 40 minutes.

Don't be fooled by its surface, this is not your generic first-/third-person MMOFPSRPG. Its major elements are that of role-playing and everything is entirely player-driven. All the way from the fringe, criminal elements of the game, all the way through the corporations, up to the military and police, even up to the governmental aspects that is being run by a senate; in which all citizens of the game can vote in their senator of choice - there are even political parties. There are no real levels to speak of, only ranks to which you can be promoted to by faction members of higher rank. It is a very social game with action elements.

Feel free to contact me if you try Face of Mankind, I'd love to know if anyone from MBN get in on the RP fun! I'd also be more than willing to guide anyone here through all the basics of the game.

I am a veteran member of the faction Guardians of Mankind since back in 2005, when the game's first Open Beta and Retail period was around. If anyone happens to choose that faction I'd be able to help you out even more, with all aspects, specifically how to play this faction. It might just be wishful thinking on my part, but I think most members here would fit perfectly within Guardians of Mankind. We have a nice group of people that very much remind me of the individuals here.

In any case, I'd be happy to know and meet any of you in-game whichever faction you choose!

I've a confession: I never played an online FPS or RPG. So everyone will kick my ass.

Still, I'll try it out, cause it's about time.

Send me a mail in-game if you get in, my name's Bob Dobbs. I'll guide you through the game. And don't worry, about 80% of the game are really poor at fighting.
