Lightbulb Atmosphir- free 3D game engine plus tools!

www.atmosphir.com

It's a free 3D game engine, with all the tools you need and a community. Works under Mac and Linux! (oh, and windows too, booooo!). It's totally Indie, and Zelda-like!

Here's a vid of a game made under it!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5AYJrKPqiwk&fmt=

I wonder if anything LBA related can be made in it. Haven't tried it myself yet, just saw the vid, so I'll go ahead and experiment with it if it's downloadable already now .

Apparently you need to apply for beta testing - but the vids look just amazing!!!
EDIT:

Awwww They added commercial shit .

Really, really cool!

Incidentally, my little brother is really getting into gaming. I'm wondering...if he wanted to create player models for this Atmospir, is there a model-maker within the program or would he need to use something like 3DMax/Blender/Canvas/etc. to do it and then import?

I don't know yet. I sent a form to apply for the Beta, and am downloading this from mininova, the seed-rate however s awfull. I really hope you can customize the content.

If you watch some of the vids on the site, the size of the worlds you can create there is just amazing. Sad thing I can see here though is that there's some sort of a store... and you buy stuff in it... however if you can add your own stuff that won't be a problem for me.

Yeah, I applied for the beta too. I was actually going to buy him DarkBasic, but if this works just as well, and is free (mostly), that is fine. Just trying to get his feet wet.

I don't know if you can still find it, but the Tomb Raider 4 level editor was pretty much free, and it was made on pretty much the same basis, of stacking various blocks upon each other. I still have a CD lying around somewhere.

The cool thing about editors like that is that you have a working environment ready, so for a kid it's a dream come true. With DB he'd have to learn programming first I think. Tomb Radier Editor, or this thing could first spark his imagination so he doesn't get bored of game making too quick.

Some of the levels there are just amazing! Nintendo fans should go bananas over them.

Yeah, when he gets home I'll show it to him. He's actually in the process of building a PC that will be able to hand some gaming stuff, so this will be fun.

Alas, Rail Boos wears a flea collar, and thus, the Rail Boos is immune to the attacks of a camel and its fleas.

That there's a store on the site in which you pay for some ingame stuff. Not really sure what is it all about.

That is sick! If you could make and import your own models, it's already paying for itself! (And it's free :P)

Awesome. Looks like something to pick up when they release it publically.

I think it's only for character customisation. And judging from the awesome level, who needs characters.

no, I *think* 3d game maker was just a set of pre-made game engines of various types you could then customise with your own levels and graphics.
It was kinda a easier but more restricted version of Dark Basic I think.

This, on the other hand, is more like a 3D Knytt Stories or Chips Challange.
A fixed game type, but a lot more flexibility within that type.

well I asked the "you like it" question exactly because of that I was gonna say what u did and I fear for this engine not to be as limited as 3DGM was

only in a direct conversation this is a freaking forum, we merely TYPE our thoughts so one cannot sense vibes and stuff so "like it" means just to like something as far as MBN goes
