If I ever see it, it's by downloading, as I heard it won't be coming to Israel.

Well, it's stupid that they're not bringing it to israel,
because that goes agaisnt the freedom of speech and self expression in a way.
oh well.
I guess i'll download it, since everybody's making such a big deal about it.
If you ask me the movie sounds gross.

Not really from what I've seen...

Well, considdering Israel's foreigh tactics to call everything they don't like antisemitistic, it would look a bit odd if they did allow this movie now there is this fuss

Punch-Drunk Love, to put it simple: this is the best movie Adam Sandler ever acted in. No, it's not the typical Big Daddy family-cozy comedy, with sentimental ending and the obligatory moral preaching. You can tell it's isn't just some jester behind the sparks, Paul Thomas Anderson has done a wonderful job with the sanitary, almost surrealstic scenery with a demented Sandler covered in perspiration running around in a navy-blue suit. After films such as Magnolia and Boogie Nights have Anderson executed a banal love story - a bagatelle, but a damn good one I might add. I don't want to spoil to much of the story since the movie is based on mysticism, keeping the viewer hanging with astonishment.

It left me bloody optimistic with a big feel-good emotion in my stomach, showing even freaks can find happiness. One of last year's definite highlights. 9/10

Elephant (Info, trailer)

A day in a school in Oragon, obviously based on the high school shooting incident in Columbine.
The movie tells about several kids in school, many of them don't even talk to eachother, on a day that went seriously wrong, every time from a different point of view.
It's all very nice to see how the stories connect to eachother, but the movie is painfully slow, and I about 60% of the movie is watching people walk in silence.
In the 81 minutes of the movie, hardly anything happens, and if you took off all the "bullshit moments" you would be left with about 30 minutes I think.
Perhaps you could call it art, but with my ignorant mind I simply got bored in many moments.
The movie begins to move when they show the day of Eric and Alex, the shooters. You first see them while the scene shows some guy with his dog, and suddenly they arrive. For me it was a powerful moment, because after all of the dead moments you suddenly see those guys, that the way they are shown in the movie they represent evil or something.
Now, there's one thing that seriously annoyed me about the appearant motives of Eric and Alex' acts. There's a part that you see one of them play some FPS (a really crappy one, made just for the movie so no real effort put to it), and when they talk about their plan you see a short shot of walking in the school with the gun in FPS view, that you only see the weapon in the bottom. This annoyed me as I'm tired of hearing about how video games corrupt children's soul. There are several loonies that might take games seriously (I am aware that there's evidence in the Columbine case proving that the shooters say "It'll be just like in Doom" ), but I can't hide the feeling that they're trying to give video games a bad reputation on purpose.
Another thing that makes you wonder what the hell was going on in the head of whoever wrote the script is since when the shooters were a gay couple.
At school, Eric and Alex happily start shooting people (in one case we learn that appearantly bullets make invisible holes in your body), and there's also a black dude named Benny that simply walks in school (ignoring the carnage going around him) till he gets shot. That was the moment that I yelled "What the hell is this?!".
And the worst thing, in the end there's no end. The movie suddenly ends. This killed another 0.5 point of the total score.

So, for all the dead moments, stupidity, and crappy ending I give it 5.5/10.
It could have been better.

In other worlds, they put a message inside an asteroid to protect it while it travels through space to reach some other planet. In this case it is a gift, a guitar, rather than just a message.

Saw American Beauty, and I liked it quite a lot.
Probably because I understood the guy that one day felt tired of being quiet and became a bit kookoo.

American Beauty sucks :-x
it's just a combination of all American taboo's put in one movie...

Last movie I watched was Princess Mononoke. Honestly, it's probably the best anime movie ever, watch it, even when you don't like anime!

hmm...i was pretty interested in seeing Elephant, it won a lot of stuff at Cannes, which is generally a pretty good sign. The 'computer games encourage violence' bit sounds awful though ah well...i'll probably dl it just out of curiosity.

Gonna see Dawn of the Dead soon hopefully, but don't really have too high hopes for it. I'll try and check out Princess Mononoke...

American Beauty is a very good movie! It's story is based on misconceptions and mistaken interpretations and the sudden urge to change one self.
It also has the best life philosophy ever:
"I guess I could be pretty pissed of about what happened to me. But it's hard to stay mad for too long, when there's so much beauty in this world."
That's actually totally true in nearly every occasion.

Ho'kay, recent movies...

Millennium Actress

Same director and style from Perfect Blue, which is a mystery/thriller story that severely fucks with your mind, until you don't longer know what is real and what is not in the movie (it has a clearifying ending though).
Millennium Actress' concept is really very alike, but the story evolves in a more dramatic and sentimental way rather than harsh and depressing.
In the end it was a little disappointing comparing to what I'd heard of it, but it was still a nice watch.

Suicide Club

In the first quarter of this movie you see 54 girls jump in front of a train. Quite shocking, especially if you know that Japan's suicide ration among youth is one of the highest in the world. I expected a more or less realistic semi-documentary about this matter, but the story (built up around more shocking scenes) finally evolves in a plot that makes no sense and is totally random. Too bad.
I had to watch something happy and fluffy after this

Audition

Yet another sick Japanese movie! Why not just do both in one weekend now we're on it...
Okay, this dude whose wife died wants to remarry a nice girl before he gets too old. She turns out to be a total psychobitch.
I can imagine this movie would make one paranoid about meeting people they only just got to know.

BY THE WAY, I do not recommend the above last two movies if you're under 18 or have a weak stomach.

The Italian Job

Nice action movie.. reminded me of Ocean's Eleven, only worse.. watched it with friends, it's perfect for that.

Movies I really want to see coming time but probably won't

The Butterfly Effect
Matchstick Man
Big Fish
21 Grams

I didn't think Princess Mononoke was that good. I'm overall not a true Ghibli fan. Although visually stunning and awesome animation, the stories are a tad bit too random. Well, at least it's not clichématic (only within the Ghibli-genre itself (Like how Nausicaa and Spirited Away Princess Mononoke are awfully alike)).

Saw 21 grams the other day. Spent more time staring at the breasts of the girl next to me than the screen, but hey

On a serious note. It was good imo. A little slow though. Still worth watching Very similar to Memento.

Momento is a really good movie!!! Very confusing, though. I got lost for not paying attention. The last movie I've seen was Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
