My current list of requirements for sig images
  • Hosted images like avatars
  • Ability to set size restrictions (dimension and file size)
  • Ability for users to explicitly turn it off
  • different modes for signatures (set my forum administrator): 1) old bevahior; 2) either image or old behavior; 3) image + old

Anyway, I'm going to post this on the vbulletin "hack" site and maybe someone will write a plugin for it. If such a plugin is installed I will install it with signature behavior set to "2"

that was completely uncalled for, and if I wanted to resort to your level I'd upload it multiple times on multiple servers so you could spend a couple hours blocking each individual one.

and those people saying they plain just dont like seeing images in sigs, well I plain just dont like having only text in sigs, yet it doesnt bother me because I can respect other peoples preferences, if images in sigs are enabled, you can still just display text in your sig.

Just a few examples.

Granted, that's a control issue. But that is what this whole deal is about.
The only example you can give me are 3 threads of an Anime forum?
How can you even compare an Anime forum, populated mostly by teens, to the forums I listed, which are serious forum about Asian horror movies, and are populated mostly by people, who are over 18?

Quote:
Free? yes. Potsmoking? occasionally. Democratic? Sure, regarding NEW issues, not issues that have been posted and mentioned sooo often and are in generally posts by people who have been here about a week and think they rule the place already.
Oh, please. They don't say "ZOMG! ENABLE TEH IMGES IN TEH SIGZ OR I'LL KILL J00!!!!11111oneoneoneoneelevenelevenoneone!!!!!!!!". They simply request stuff peacefully.

Quote:
I think it is also interesting to see that
a) The avarage age of those requesting it, is 14. Not quite the age where most boys are responsible enough to request things other than "cool stuff".
Don't make me laugh. The forums I listed as examples are all lead by people over 18, or sometimes also over 30 years old.
And the Ring Forum has an average member age of around 22, if I'm not wrong.

Quote:
c) In total, I think only about 5 people have requested and agreed so far. With at least just as many people opposing it.
In this thread, yes, but I think you should consider the 4853672 other threads about this as well.

Quote:
Well, technically speaking, forums aren't a democracy.
You're right, but techinally speaking, a forum is not an absolutistic monarchy either.

Quote:
I don't think that was an issue of disagreement, I think that was an issue of having too little time or not being able to. I'd say, rerequest, because I cannot remember any post saying a clear 'no' to new smileys.
Strangely enough, El has enough time to install a portal to the MBN, and even to upgrade the MBN, but he doesn't have time to install new smilies, which I think it's a matter of minutes. And he is able to install them.
Look, I'm not stupid, I have a forum of my own, so I know how things work. Of course, my forum uses phpBB2, but in the end, doesn't vBulletin have MORE features than phpBB2, and not less?

Quote:
'Considering' means something different than 'discarded'. We have always considered new ideas. It just sometimes happens that a) we don't agree with them, b) the question has been asked too many times c) it technically isn't possible.
a) You don't agree with them, because you don't like them. And you not liking them is "teh" subjective.
b) Yes, also because this forum doesn't even have a proper threads index thread, so one has to look, like 10 forum pages before finding what they're looking for, so people don't even bother searching for stuff.
c)

I think there should be, people should suit themself if they can't adblock em.

In fact, before we had a flying
that was very annoying, but Adblock just blocked it, so you can't blame it's annoying.

PS. I actully had the thought before morshem's post

Smileys and avatars quickly get buried in threads. And sometimes I forget things. And ofcourse it's tedious work to add new smileys and avatars. Also note that I became active again in the end of 2005. Before that I was quite inactive for some time.

And yes vBulletin does have more features, but not everything works as great as you might hope.

If in-sig images are made doable in the forum, I want to have the option to turn them off (like with the LBA3 propaganda). Don't even want to think about those things they annoy me so much.

I might agree to that, more so than the signitures. However, big avatars can get just as annoying as in-sig images.

I never get annoyed by normal, not too big images in sigs, like 3/4 of the image TakaM posted. I don't really understand what's the fuss about that, I't a nice way to express yourself, and when there are certain rules about it, nothing shoudl be wrong.

I never knew red was the colour of joy? I always thought it was the colour of slaughter, decay, rape and war? Is that joy for you? ;P

Oh well, I'd say I would HATE to have signature img's and/or wider avatars. It would just mess up the forum. The MBN is definetly the nicest forum I have ever been to, and the tidyness/cleanfeeling/unmessyness plays a big role in that.

Die, signature images! Die! (in a sea of red "joy")

We all know that asians define joy as slaughter, blood, massacre, decapitation and war. So, that pretty much makes sense. Now for the ultimate question, are you an asian?

Actually, no, I do prefer the current version before the wider one. The wider one just takes up too much space.

It's not stopping until the static one fits.

and no, I'm not Asian. Am I not allowed to think of the colour of red as joy if i'm not Asian!??

If red only reminds you of blood and stuff, maybe you should go see someone.

I will stop it for you! I will stick a fork in its wheels, muwhaha. Die, horrible avatar!

If you are neither asian nor raised in an asian country, then no. You are not supposed to think so! Every righteous person living in an Christian/Catholic country must know that red is the colour of all evil things!

Oh no, I am really not in the need of go seeing someone. I see far too many people around me daily, why should I go look for them? I want them to leave me alone!

Red is the colour of love you psychopath! Red roses, red tulips! Becouse it symbolizes heat, wich in terms of love is a metaphore for passion and letting go of your consciouss self! Black and shades of grey are the colours of evil, as they are the colours of death, hunger, misery and depression! Evil things... pffft...
