Cool

Does anyone else here love the music of the LBA games, especially LBA2? The mosquibee theme and Empire are especially great...

I put all the LBA2 music onto an audio CD cause it's so good. And I too love the Unreal music, especially the tracks Seti, Chizra, All Hallows and the intro Flyby. I also like the music to the Wing Commander games, it's also really good.

P.S what is CT?

I can't wait for anything about LBA3.
I remember the first time I saw something about LBA2, I went trough the roof....

About MIDI, it sounds very good if you have a good soundcard, for example a SB Live!, with the wavetable the midi files sound like wave files.

There's a secuel to it (of Chrono Trigger) called Chrono Cross, unfortunant it's only on PSX (which sucks)...

Hmm I'm getting off topic.

I agree midi can sound good if you have the right soundcard. I prefere the .spc version
(spc is a music format used by zsnes to save the music, it records the whole music and no quality is lost so it sound ezaktly the same as in the game, minor point is that it doesn't have an end)

LBA music is probably the best I've ever heard on the PC. Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross (which I completed just yesterday) probably have the best of all time though. Final Fantasy Tactics is very memorable too. Music makes such a difference to a game, doesn't it?. A bad game can become average if the music is right.
On the same note, there's some guy on Napster called Holomap, with all the LBA1 songs - is he anyone from here? I'm getting the title track as I write.
And, as i'm listening to it - my god, I'd forgotten how good it was. This sounds very like a soundtrack version, and not the game version. Is there a soundtrack...
The track are listed as Titre1, titre2 etc., so it's obviously French in origin...

Why do the difficult thing and donwload it via napster.
You can get the same files (with right names) and good quality from here:
http://www.magicball.net/files/music/lba1
http://www.magicball.net/files/music/lba2
http://www.magicball.net/files/music/timecommando

Ow BTW, XMidi is just an other form of MIDI, it has some extra feature. But I converted the xmidi files to midi, and with a SB Live! they sound terrific.

LBA1 only uses XMidi if it can't use the CD audio tracks, which are a squajillion times better.

I think that the poppy bits of LBA2 music were, well, crap. They should use theme music closer to the original (i.e. 'classical').

Or they could pay lots of money and use bits of Adiemus! (That would be so good... Adiemus is 'classical', btw).

Curse of Monkey Island and Grim Fandango are also worth mentioning for awesome music. I would like to see LBA3 using hundreds of mp3's instead of tens of music tracks. I can be done, in fact you can play Escape from Monkey Island music throught winamp since they are all in mp3 format (check out the demo files)... why isn't there a card or sound card that has an mp3 codec chip out yet... or is there? that would speed things up

Kieron: LBA1 uses both the CD Audio and XMidi tracks, some places use a CD Audio track, and other places use a XMidi track.

XMidi and CD audio

All the XMidi tracks are the same as the CD ones, so XMidi is used in movies (coz the CD is in use with the movie, so it can't play the audio track), and when it just wants a specific section of the music (coz er... they couldn't figure out how to skip the CD to a specific track time).
