Some renders for the RMP

Hey. I got a little bit bored, and I remembered that I was part of the RMP!
So I logged back on to the site and downloaded most of the models.
(Although some of them are in the Max format, and I can't seem to convert it to 3DS)

The program I'm using is Vue 5 Infinite. I will be upgrading to Vue 6 Infinite (which has HEEPS of new features)

I thought out the scene in my head, and this is one thing that I came up with:

More will come.

Nice
Vue seems to get some nice clumps of grass.
I think the sky could be a bit more "dynamic" with a simple picture like that, and 16:9 ratio would suit the image more, imo. (that is, 800x450 or something like that).
-

While Vue is too restrictive for actual RMP work in terms of animation, its great for concepts (ditto for any Bryce users out there)

If you want/have time to help out more, please check the task list here:
http://el-muerte.student.utwente.nl/~rmp/tasks.php

Thanks!

It can import any kind of animation.
So I was thinking of using it to render the final video.

Here's a list of the ratios that it can export out to...

Standard PC - 4:3
Photo - 36:24
Square - 1:1
16mm - 18:13
IMAX - 10:7
Widescreen - 16:9
Academy Standard Flat - 37:20
70mm - 46:21
Todd-AO - 17:13
Panavision - 47:20
65mm - 11:4
UltraPanavision 70mm -69:25
Cinerama - 72:25
US Letter - 279:216
A4 - 297:210

I can set there resolution as high (1080p High Definition or much higher) or as low (1x1) as I want.
I'll re-do it but, I'll make the sky blue-er and I'll have it in the sand by the water with a few rocks scattered about the place in 1080p HD.

Now once my PC has pulled it's thumb out and decided to finish rendering a small video.. I post it here!

It's the Fire ball being thrown and leaving fire trails on the ground where it hit...

I dont think Vue has any skinning abilitys does it?
For charecter movement and such we need Biped/Mocap compatible skinning (*.bip or *.stp files for instance).

Vue is more landscape oriantated this animation.

Well I would show you it, that is, if my PC would just do it.

It is, but you can move away form that area when ever you want!

Hmm... I think xStream can import them and then convert them to Vue compatible movements. But I'll need to do more research on that.

Its very doughtfull.
Vue is a great program, but charecter animation is such a massively complex task, a program has to be very "big" to deal with it.

Skinning is the ability to wrap mesh data, geometry, around virtual "Bones" which can then be moved about, stretching and distorting the geometry ("skin").
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skeletal_animation

Without skinning you would either have to hand-animate a HUGE number of vertexs, or you would be restricted to "robot" like joints where things just rotate, and never stretch.

I've got Vue5 Esprit, although its got a fairly decent landscape generative, the progressive bit mainly, it's still not all that great IMO, the infinte one does seem very good though for building entire natural scenes with the ecosystem mod. Rendering is extremely slow though.

It also supports fully skinned and textured poser models and you can animate them within Vue or it'll import the animation paths from Poser or another 3D app you load it in, so could be suitable.

Yes, although it takes a while to render, I have a few PCs around me all connected up to a switch and I use the Network Render So it cuts down on the time drastically!

Does it support skinning then? Or just poser stuff?
I still think it would be easier to take any good landscapes/ect out of vue then it would be to put biped animations into it.
But I dont have enough expirence with vue. I only played with a vue demos awhile.

I saved up enough to get Vue 6 xStream.
I also bought Maya and Vue can communicate really well with Maya.
I'm posting another render (Higher quality this time...) and this time it went really, really fast!
They've worked really well with the engine this time!
It's surprising!
It was only 10 minutes and 13 seconds at the highest quality that you can get.

Here it is. The Principal Island Library (at night)
I'll do a day-time one next.

You bought Maya? gez..wish i had that spare cash

Nice work
Purhapes as well as a day one though, you could do a slightly lighter nighttime one?
A nightime there should also be some starlight/moonlight so it could be a bit lighter while still realistic? (sky dome light with a slightly purple tint I think Id use).
Are you rendering in Vue or Maya?
Could you export the geometry by any chance so I could play around with it?

How long and often are nights on Twinsun? There shouldn't be too many nights in the movie, and no nights on the poles.

I'm rendering in Vue.
Export, da wha?

Yeah. I'll add a purple tint to it and add some stars in.
I'm currently doing a stormy LBA2 style render atm.
This one is in lower quality because it's taking a while.

Edit:
Kobold - It's just a few renders to check out the software.
There mightn't be any nights

Edit 2:
Found a mistake. The alpha map for the long grass is the wrong way around :S
Fixed that and I'm re-rendering the storm version.

Edit 3:
Here's the storm version.

Edit 4:
Added evening version

Thats much better!
A bit of lighting and atmosphere makes a huge difference.

We will need some models soon for the introduction.
I have almost finnished a space flyby/plant intro thingy.

Can you export in either dxf or filmbox (fbx) format? I know maya can, or it has plugins too.
Its not so important now, I just wanted too play about with advanced lighting and stuff on your scene
But its best if we make sure we can share files for when we need it for the movie.

Got new pc recently and its helping my renders a lot

*edit*

Evening version ~ Good, but i think you need some haze at the horizon.

True.
In fact, they kinda have a long sunset that turns briefly into a night.
The sun dosnt cross the sky like earth, but rather does a cycle at one end that dips under the horizon

Yeah, I dont care if its official canon, its my system and it dosnt contradict the game so im keeping it

Your system is fine. Of course there should be some fan interpretations like that.

Cool pictures. Maybe the dirt on the ground needs to be made more irregular?

Piss!
The program just closed all of a sudden!

I'll just re-add it into a scene.

Edit:
Darkflame - I'm just taking suggestions and seeing how they work for concept art. (I guess you could call it that... :P)

Arg
That reminds me of the "3DSMax work flowchart" at my university.

Basicaly it was a poster like;

Load up Max ~ Save ~ Crash ~ Reload ~ Open file ~ Create object ~ Save ~ crash ~ ect

More about lightning effects: You could make a scene in the Hamalayi Mountains where you see both suns on either sides of the horizon. Yay for crazy daytimes!

Hmm.. That's actually very interesting!
I'll just put a random mountain in the middle of a scene and add two suns. See what effect that gives.
