Boy Sues After Teacher Disturbs His Sleep in Class

Link

It's amazing what some people will sue for nowadays.

Thankfully, most of the time, frivolity doesn't win out...although in some cases (e.g. the McDonald's coffee incident), it does.

According to the article he doesn't sue because she "woke him up", but because she violently woke him up and caused him permanent physical damage. That seems fair enough.

"very severe injuries to his left eardrum"

I wonder though, what's so very wrong about sleeping in class that the teacher would be angry about it? No one makes a fuss about students sleeping in lectures.

Maybe the kid has insomnia? Or was studying all night and fell asleep accidentally. No reason for slamming around him.

I remember at school, each time someone would fall asleep, we'd all laugh and someone would gently prod him. No shock therapy needed.

because teachers demand respect, and not listening to them make them ANGREH

I think it's very rude to fall asleep during a lesson/lecture/whatever, just leave the class if you don't plan to participate or go wash your face.
Also I find it hard to imagine how slamming on a table can be so loud to cause ear damage.

QFT.

Although my philosophy is that if the kid is going to fall asleep in class (habitually, that is), that's fine, as long as you're quiet. Just don't expect me to help you make up what you slept through. Oh, and expect a shitty participation grade.
