Lba1.5 want it to continue or not ?

I'm wondering if i should continue or stop making LBA1.5, and i thought you could help me choosing between continuing to make LBA1.5 or start the new project i once talked about: a new game inspired by LBA, Zelda and now BGE(which i played recently and loved).
For those who don't know my game, here it is:
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/grandemange/lba.htm
http://forum.magicball.net/showthrea...astpost&t=7890
---
The main reason why i wonder if i should stop are:
-I want to start this new project.
-There are other lba fan games more successful than mine.
-I'm facing hard problems for animating twinsen (because of his tunic)
---
Tell me what you think.

I think that Lba 1.5 should be subsided now, and begin this project then once it's finished, complete Lba 1.5

(This is what I think anyway...)

Dont stop!

I too often get bored half way into a project, but if I stop and change then I get bored with the new project too after awhile!
I end up with a hundred half-done projects and nothing finnished

Seriously LBA1.5 was looking pretty good, and I wouldnt say other projects are "more successfull", some things look a bit better, some dont.
They are hardly more successfull.

My advice is continue it, but bring into it any idea you had from the new project.
If you get bored doing one bit of the code, expirement and add something new to a different bit! Make a fancy title screen, work on a special effect attack, invent a new enemy...anything to keep yourself interested

As for Twinsen/Tunic...dont worry about getting it too good, in many ways the tunic helps as it hides the legs. (and thus its less noticeable when they are out of sync).

Thanks Darkflame for the big reply
This gives me confidence, but the tunic is really a problem for me, it's more about the arms, i don't know how to animate them correctly, i don't find the way to weight the vertices correctly relativelly to the bones. I've spent hours and hours trying and in the end nobody will notice it if i finnally manage to do it. Anyway, i forgot one big problem: the scenario, i have no suitable scenario for the game, maybe making a story between lba1 and 2 was not a good idea (i still can change this but i think i'm not able to invent a good scenario as i already created a few ones but dropped them each time)
I'm not bored with any bit of the code because when it comes to programming i almost always find ways to overcome problem (i must add Dark Basic pro is quite easy and getting powerful and i cleaned all the code recently). But, now i really really need to animate twinsen (not just walking sequence), i think i'll buy Character FX for that cuz it suits exactly my needs, the problem is i'm too bad at animating, i dunno how to attach the vertice in the right maner to the bones, and that's really my problem as for the scenario.
That's why i think making a new project would solve those 2 problems (easier animation if there is no tunic and no more creativity brake).
What do you think ?

IF YOU DARE STOPPING IT , I'LL SLAP YOU ! :P Don't even think about it . Though me , jasiek , thehen have "better" graphics , yours is the more LBAish , the more atmospheric and you manage to do the inventory and dialogue right . When I saw it, I knew it will be the one which will resamble LBA the most . And about Twinsen , well leave hima just as he is in the first demo . BTW : I have twinsen in tunic too and I have THE SAME problem : attaching vertices to the bones ... so , I animated him without bones ... in vertices and face mode . So , bottom line : DON'T EVER STOP !!!

Nah, don't stop. There's no need to stop, it's not like you have a deadline, or your live depends on it, it's all about setting up goals for yourself and then trying to achieve them and having fun while doing it. You know, I don't see a point in stoping, you've got bored with it for now and wan't to do something else(I know that feeling very well), well you can do two things:
1. Do the new things you wan't to do, and occasioanlly return to your project
2. Find ways of merging your new ideas with your actual project(that's what I do).

You know, when I'm modelling something, I'm doing it for fun, so I'm not only making models for Little Bigger Adventure, recently I made a 1929 ford (which is my dream car...), a very neat dragon, a dwarf, a spartan hoplite and some other things. But when I'm making all those simingly unrelated things I find new ways of improving my project. Don't stop man, it's all about having fun and gathering expierence, if you wan't to explore some other things, do something else than it's fine, but you don't have to stop your project for that. And about the plot, you know, lba2 started small, Twinsen was without his Tunic (that's what I do - the Tunic is a bit hard to animate, so I gather skills with animating a normal character, and then when I'm finally ready I'll try to make the Tunic) and he didn't had to save the world or something. Read some books, watch some movies, play some games, gather inspiration.
Have fun with your project but DON'T STOP -just don't push yourself too much.

Frankly, I think your worring too much about the tunic.

If you can get the technical side kick-arse and have a nice demo put together, someone is bound to help you with the animated mesh.
Ask around for help on the other projects for that mater.

Remember though, its not a very important thing at this stage.

When Nintendo made Mario1 it was nothing more the colour squares during the early phase's. They wanted to get the "physics" of the game done first, the movement, the jumps, the level set up...after that was nice they went back and painted in the sprites.
(then added the rest of the levels by changeing the datasets)

To be honest i never liked the idea of people tryin to make lba-games since no one is ever completed and I just play some crappy demos (exept FunnyBunnys producttion (or wtf the name of that SGK company)).

But I on the other hand can't imagine me joining some other LBA project since it seems so boring to do so...

Well, if you could think yourself completing this project, I say continue.

That's what I say but I'm aware of the much more experience DF got.

Hey, thank you for the compliment, i keep it in mind. Really that model is hard to animate...

Thank you for this great analysis. About merging my ideas with the project: i bet it'll be hard, my ideas are mostly gameplay ideas and i invented sevral universes that are quite different from twinsun, so it's really hard to integrate this into lba1.5, i can offcourse add small ideas like special new characters and such... Ok for the tunic, i'll make twinsen without it first then i'll see. Do you know Character FX, do you think it's a good choice for animation ?

Yes...it would be good to have a non-tuniced version of twinsen too anyway.
So that when you get much further into the game, and are concentrating on story, you can somehow show twinsen losing his tunic and powers.

It is LBA1.5 remember; Somehow he loses a lot of his powers between 1 and 2.

Maybe in a "Metroid" style way.
Or maybe he foolishly/accidently gives it too the museum. (some comady explaination like he meant to give them something else)

I don't know Metroid...
I didn't see this like it: twinsun giving it accidently to the museum, i think he's genrous and as he thinks he doesn't need it no more there's no reason not to give them his tunic...

SO cool to find this for the first time, so many years later! I had never read these messages before. HOW great it is to feel some recognition for the awful load of work (for a 13-14 year old) that it was. YEEEAH, I did finish my projects, unlike most of the rest of the mbn. If not the original full plan as intended, at least, I went as far as I could while it was still fun to work in it, then wrapped it up nicely in an entertaining demo before saying goodbye to it.

Well, if you read this far, here is a little treat: luckily, my old Foxy Bunny Entertainment website is archived, and the demo fully downloadable!

https://web.archive.org/web/20080827...mbnandlba.html

P.S.: I suspect El Muerte never realized I made a pixel art version of him in the game!

Edit: man, this reminded me of my bunnyrabbot fanfic generator, LOL, the download link is down unfortunately, but that was such a classic!

How close are you to having read every post ever posted on the MBN? Very cool that you managed to create a demo! What software did you use?
