Yep yep, I'm updating a site I made some 14 years ago. Got an email from one Cody, who translated LBA1! Available to download now from Little Bit Adventure. Go ahead and try it, Russian people.
Thanks Cody!

I know it's not about the russian translation but I just found that on your website :
http://lba.fishos.net/bit/fonts.html I am really stoke to know that I finally found the font. Is there a way I can install this in my computer? I would really need that to stream. Thanks!

You mean install the original LBA font on Windows as a usable font? I recall someone posting that some time ago, lemme have a look.
...There it is. Apperantly it's a font called Serifa BT. [edit]After some googling, looks like it's more like Serifa Lt 55 Roman Bold

This reminds me I should finish the Slovenian translations of LBA 1 and LBA 2 that my friend started 12(!) years ago and then passed onto me. And I also have a Portuguese (Portugal) translation of LBA 2 that I started in 2006 or so and also never finished.

Hey Battler.
I have to review LBA1 translation, the latest version is not in a good state as it was in the middle of the grammar updates, but should be closer in some aspects to the brazilian one. The LBA2 translation was never finished, but it makes sense to do the same work done for LBA1 and fix all the new grammar. Now we the release of the classic versions by 2.21 I want to review them, but haven't started yet. I have dumped all the community translations in this repo to update them: https://github.com/LBALab/lba-translations/tree/main

Your repository appears to be missing the Hebrew translations by ChaosFish and morshem and the Czech translations by Ladislav Tampa (they were on the website cestiny.cz, not sure if that website is still up).

Yeah I know and probably another one. the Hebrew HQR cannot be loaded with the current code. I need to investigate why it can't read them.

So I've played with this one for a few days, and I need to say that while overall this is the most consistent localisation yet when it comes to names for places, items etc. and the extent to which logic between lines is retained, I feel like it's way too often that the lines are one ocean too dry for the Russian language. The word order is hardly altered at all, making all of the world and characters not feel particularly "alive", and overall seems more analytical than trying to bring the characters to us, if you get what I mean. The biggest cause for this, most obviously, is that the English localisation was used as the source instead of the original French writing. It's totally understandable that when possessing great proficiency in English, there's much in terms of allure towards using the English version as the base for your localisation, but we've seen by now that 1. there's a limit to how much expressiveness you can reverse-engineer from an already quite castrated localisation, and 2. Russian is much more kin to French simply by how many devices there are to express emotions and draw vivid descriptions.

I don’t know if we have any other people fluent in Russian who’ll be able to form their own opinion about it. So the French version is better than the English version? I think I played the French version indeed before you were born

Haven't heard about Russian-French language parallels yet, I'd love to hear a few examples !

The only Russian version of LBA 1 I've ever played is the one with full Russian voices that was, according to a note left in the game (you see it when you talk to one of the nurses in the Citadel at the beginning of the game), produced in Dnepropetrovsk, Ukraine, of all places. It is the only verson of LBA 1 where the narrator is female. It is awesome, on par with the best Russian translation of LBA 2 I got from old-games.ru, the only Russian translation where Twinsen actually sings the Ferryman's song.
However, nothing is ever going to beat the Japanese LBA voices. As for the Russian translation mentioned in this thread - I don't think I played it. Edit: And yes, of course I know Russian. |

Is there Japanese VO for the 2nd? I do recall you mentioning there being one for LBA1 but hadn't caught you saying it was class.

I was looking through some old threads though & saw people referring to there being credits for the Japanese translation in LBA2's credits
