Have you ever played a game as magical as this?

I don't think I ever have. I'm not sure what comes close. Even to this day this was the best game I ever played. Because it captured my imagination and on an emotional level. It's hard to describe what I felt. It is ineffable. I mean it's just a game, yet it impacted my life deeply. And It kinda reflects real life. To keep the faith even when things seem to be falling apart around you. And in the end all is well. The universe is on your side guiding you. We all have our own personal "Sendell's" or angels if you will looking over us

For me BeyondGoodAndEvil came close.
But certainly its very very rare feeling from a game.

Second that, Beyond Good and Evil was an incredible game! I had many emotions going through with it, especially with that one particular incident in the slaughterhouse (you know what i mean).

I would say there's no game that is more magical than LBA, it's simply impossible.

But there are better games that came out later for the story.

Syberia is one of my favourite game of all time talking of the story.

But LBA all in all is the best game. The only game that made me dreaming of it while sleeping at night.

This.
And to some extent The Longest Journey.
I really liked Dreamfall as well but because of the chapters you couldn't really get that continuous experience TLJ had.

On a related note: I really hope they won't screw up Beyond Good & Evil 2...

Indeed.
Its just overall atmosphere. So few games feel as alive & magical in that way.

Second that with one little exception: "Croc: legend of the gobbos" - such a lighthearted game with actually a pretty dark (although very very flat story).
Most of the feel comes down to it's awesome soundtrack and the cut characters. Other than that it's a very simple jump'n'run with mostly linear levels, but still always worth a play.

In my book, LBA is ranked as a good game, but not very outstanding (might be because of how many time I replayed it). It's just like one of those old music you have deep in your mp3 player, that sometimes comes to mind and you're like "sure, why not listen to it".

For a magical feel, I recommend Journey, and for a less cliché choice, Gruntz (do play that one if you don't know about it !).

For me I would say Sanitarium and Indigo Prophecy, but it's a different genre.

For me the first 2 Broken Sword games came close to being as magical at LBA, but not quite as magical. But damn close.

Grim Fandango is my second favourite
It was highly rated and one of the last adventure games of its time (1998).

I think your underestimating just how often we have expressed our passion. Its not lack of passion, its just you run out of ways to express it :P
Also we love other games too, that doesn't subtract from LBAs love.

I feel like that too. Like I'm more critic because I know the game so much.

And some of us are a bit more "burned" after promises, false starts, broken translations of french interviews and the long time that has passed since the last proper LBA game.

But that doesn't mean we don't love the game, I still do and would play a third one in a heartbeat.

----

As for "magical" feelings. Mmm, LBA2 is near top of the game for me, but also Grim Fandango, the ending of Metal Gear Solid 4, some beautiful moments in TES V: Skyrim and GTA San Andreas (yep, listening to the in-game radio crossing over a bridge during sunset can be quite awesome).

PS: played Journey very recently and it was fantastic. Wasn't so convinced during the first half hour. I wanted to clap by the end, hah.

I guess it depends what you're looking for in a game.
