That is just brute!

...
I'll definitely watch them.
But it's bad for my animeophobia. I'll die before I'll become one of them anime people!

Byhere I vow, NEVER shall I use any kind of anime smilies such as XD or ^_^. NEVER shall I think of human-animal hybrids as "cute", and NEVER shall I um... whatever else it is anime people do.

I used to think like you did. It grows on you

Though Ghibli/Miyazaki is pretty close to mainstream.

American Psycho
So weird that I can't decide if it was good or not, but I liked Bale.

Ghibli/Miyazaki is bareable if you like fantasy, it's usually very well worked out making it watchable. It's not like a lot of the other anime stuff.

And Bale sucks. He's the true man of a single facial expresion.

As stated in the Paprika trailers:

"Evidence that Japanese animators are rocketting for the moon, while their western brothers still play in the sandbox" - New York Times

The only good western animation theese days is the cg one and some occasional movies, like Titan A.E, Beauty and the Beast(one of my disney favourites) - but mostly you can see the work is done sloppy, to draw as less as possible, while the japanese movies are made with care to detail almost unmatched by western animation.

I thought most animes are all about drawing as little as possible. (see: Pokemon)

Most animes I've seen are a lot more minimalistic than most other styles of animations I've seen (I won't say "western" because there's not really one western style). Take the running animation - draw one or two frames and some moving lines in the background and have a low-cost efficient low detail animation...

Spirited Away is an exception.

Theese are only crappy mainstream shows for kids done with a low budget, for amazing detail see Cowboy Bebop for instance, the First Ghost in the Shell movie -wich was my first anime movie ever. Akira is absolutely brilliant, also ALL the ghibli movies are done with an amazing and unparalelled attention to detail. Also Wonderfull days is very, very nice, but it's Korean I think. Oh, and you must see Memmories-wich is a three short movie feature.

Generaly I find Anime's, even the cheap ones, have more detail per frame then western animations. But much less frames overall

Ghibli is obviously the equilivent of Disney...biggest, highest budget, ect.

But it whipes the floor with them in every way

The difference between "western" and "eastern" animation is quite simple:
"sandbox" versus "rocketing for the moon".

"Western" movies are naive, based mostly on personification of animals(with of course, exceptions). The "eastern" movies, are real movies, fairy tales, based on mythology and folklore, they are more grown up and are not affraid to be brutal, while the "western" ones avoid any kind of violence or killing, wich makes them very naive. The only movies of Disney that can match with anime are the ones made before his death, when multiple backgrounds where still in wide use, then in the 60,70,80 Disney became too comercialised, and avoided all original yet expensive effects, that's why Don Bluth left disney, and made awesome movies like The Secret of the Nimh. Then Disney came back to it's fairy tale style with multiple backgrounds when they made Beauty and the Beast, wich was a brave production, not affraid of showing violence - but then they declined into the abyss again when computer effects where widely used to cover up the lack in detail. The only "western" animation that can rival quality anime is the one of movies like The Dark Crystal, or The Nightmare Before Christmas

Modern cgi movies are full of cliches, and altough they can be entertaining (and Pixar owns Dreamworks on every corner), they are still for spoiled leftish european crybabies, who do not know the true taste of a wonderous fairy tale.

You are being ironic, right? The "are" makes me think so. Please say you were being ironic!?

Pan's Labyrinth

Awesome in so many ways! I really hate George Lucas now, for two reasons:
- Using such a crappy child actor in ep 1.
- Using so much CG in ep 1, 2 and 3.

Faun is amazingly cool, and the story, characters and events are unrelenting and totally remoreseless. SO refreshing.

Don't see how you could really do episode 1 2 or 3 without massives of CG, however. Pretty hard to do a galactic scale clone war with miniatures and prosthetics alone. (even though Lucas does use an incredible company for that)

Hated though Lucas may be, the star wars prequels waited for the CG to reach a level where he could tell his story's, not that the screenplays were written around the CG.
(Interestingly, Lucas once said in an interview that it was Jurassic Park that finally signaled to him it was possible)

The prequels had many faults, but they were also visually amazing. And I'm not really talking about the space-battles, as they are pretty standard everywhere. I'm thinking of the landscape shots, and the (Asimov-ripp-off) city scapes.
Even episode 1 had the amazingly looking Pod racing sequence that couldn't have been been done any other way but CG.

Id also chuck in Aadmans work into that bucket. Wallace and Gromet might be seen as Kids, but it works on many levels and the detail can be stunning. (much like Burtons work). On simerla lines James & The Giant Peach.

Also, TitanAE, Iron Giant and purhapes even some of the Batman animated films. (visualy no match for Ghibli, of course, but storywise they are richer and darker then other western cartoon movies and without the campness of the batman films).

Then theres other oddities like the french "Les Triplettes de Belleville".

But still, your right.
In general Eastern animated films ownz Western in every way.
