I've send an Email to you with 3 pictures in it
This give some examples of models I made the last few weeks + a very basic room
Some models are inspired on LBA1, some are just my own fantasy

All comments are welcome

PS: I'm looking for good hi-res textures from LBA. Anybody has these available? My Email is [email address]

Those are some pretty cool results very fast!

BTW: The weatherwizard and Twinsen are Nights' models, right?

But you should increase the polygon count for some models it seems.

Thanks for posting the picture and first feedbacks !

For the weatherwizard and Twinsen I started for Nights' models and modified them a bit
Added a mouth to Twinsen, modified the body of the wizard + added legs that make all the animations

I'm interested to make now a small demo that exists of a few real rooms + a small story

If anybody has textures I can use for the rooms or a good LBA3 story, it's very welcome! Also meshes or detailed pictures of the actors used in Twinsen are welcome

Sounds like I have to learn many short-cuts

What is a multiplayr mod?
and what is a PM?

I've still no clue what this group is making
A death match game, yes, but what is the story behind?
How will it look like?
Is it based on LBA1 or LBA2 etc...

Still a pretty big mistery to me (and probably many others new to this forum...)

Therefore I started to work on my own fantasy map, let's call it an LBA3 map. Have some basic ideas now, but I'm still missing good LBA textures to give it a good look and feel.

This week I'll not have much time, but the week after I hope to complete something and will post some pictures again.
It will give some first inside in what you can develope in just a couple of days.

PM = Personal Message. You can send a message (like an email) on this forum to somebody of your choosing. You can acces your PM's from the user cp (on top of the page). Or directly using this link:
http://forum.magicball.net/private.php?s=

Multiplayer mod... Well... It's playing with multiple persons in a modification of a game. In our case: LBA-DM using Half-Life. To put it in LBA-DM perspective:
Shooting in environments from the LBA games.

we're simply making a mod for online (internet) play only.

Hi guys, thanks for explaning the short cuts
I'm quite new in game-land, so sorry if I ask evident questions

HomerSimpson: thanks for the textures!
One issue I noticed is that the sizes vary and are not always powers of 2. This might be an issue for the engine I use, but I'm not 100% sure. I will test it. If it works out fine, I'll use them where I can to keep the LBA look.

Is anybody familiar with extracting files using LBAdecomp?
I got the progrom working, but in what file can I find the LBA textures, and in what format are these textures?
Whatever I get extracted, I'll post back

Do there exists somewhere detailed pictures of the full maps of LBA?

The textures from LBA2 can be extracted easily. Never tried it, though. But when you do it, you'll get ALL of the outside textures from LBA2 (not the indoor, though).
BTW: I thought all textures were a multiple of 2...

Weren't there any LBA2 textures in the LBA_DM briefcase?

Which file in LBA2 is including the textures?
And what graphical file-format are these textures in?

And NO, did not find any LBA2 textures in the LBA_DM briefcase

LBA2 textures are there. It is the WAD file (the format Half-Life uses). Check www.planethalflife.com for tools to extract them.

I've looked into the file. Issue is that the textures are too poor in resolution. I need bigger textures, but with high resolution

You know any "smart" tool that can make from low resolution high resolution pictures?

I've extracted the "walking-path" texture and sharpened it, but it's still too poor.

Hmmm... if I can not solve the textures, the development significant will slow down significant

Are you connected to MSN?
It will be much faster to exchange some questions
My goal is to get ASAP decent textures and maybe we can come to some ideas / solutions

nice models i particularly like the way you didnt ask the author of the original models if you could modify them
(btw you forgot to say that you also used my rabbiebunnie head on your female rabbiebunnie)
lba2 textures are low resolution as they where made in the dark ages of gamming when that was high resolution.
put the textures through afew filters in psp7 or higher try edge smoothing always a good one to start with.

Hello nights,

From your last post I smell some "unhappiness" in the fact that I used the 2 models which are available for download.

Let me clarify that indeed I have downloaded the public availabel models for Twinsen and the Wizard. Both models I have used as starting material to construct new .ACT models (not HL).
All the other models where constructed by myself, from scratch, in a couple of days

I'm not sure what the goal of your remark is, but if you want to reach a large public, then it should be "natural" that files are shared and that no "permission" has to be asked in order to use or modify them

Maybe your goal is not to create a growing project team. Maybe you prefer to work solo and keep the things for yourself. Whatever the reality is, I respect both ways of thinking.

If you want to build up an enthousiastic project team with a "living" forum, then I believe following items should be realized:
- publish a good and accurate description of the project and all the goals to be reached
- make all required tools available for anybody and use wherever possible freeware tools
- define the file formats needed to ensure easy compatibility
- publich weekly the project progress. Not statistics, but with pictures, visible things. New people want to "see" what you are making. The graphics will convince them to participate, not the statistics.
- Why are you affraid to share your files? Because some people will use your files for other things then your project?
Ask yourself the following queston:
If you don't share anything, how many people will send you their files? If you share easy, how many people will now share their files with you? I'm convinced that by sharing your files, you will much easier get files.

But maybe I'm wrong and your goals are different the I assumed. If so, then just ignore this post and let's forget the story.
I only try to help by building things and giving my ideas, it's not ment as any kind of critic.

By end of the week I hope to be able to post a new set of pictures, showing my progress

ok
i put thoughs models up for free use with half life and under most public licences its saw you should informt the creator of any models you wish to modifie

i dont mind you moding them but i just would like to be asked as i did create them and they are copyrighted by me

and the project is not my responsibility anymore and there is not my info on the net about it as there was no interest to warant me spending time to put all theoughs resources up

As you seem to be no longer on this project, do you mind to share all your remaining files? It's a matter of not loosing things that where done already.

PS: I completed a first room now. How can I post this directly on this forum, not needing to send it first to you?

Thanks for help,

you need to post a file ? How big is it ? For small ones you can attach them too a post (100 ko max), else you'll have to post a link to the file.
If you need some hosting space on the web, or a webpage, I can provide it.

Thanks for clarifying the 100K limitation
My file is smaller, so it should work

Here a next picture of some models

Hmmm... it again does not work?
My file is a JPEG of less than 50K, so what is the problem?
Why can I not get this posted here?

Strange, it should work...

Note:
You can only attach files in your first post. Not in the edit option.

I made the attachement in the first post, but nothing is visible?
Is there a limit on the length of the file name or so?
I try to attach it again in this post

Hmm... this thing still does not work?
When I edit, the text mentiones that a files is attached, but it is not visualized? What do I do wrong here?
