Games reminiscent of LBA: Isabelle
What are some games that you played that remind you of LBA, aesthetically, atmospherically, etc?
One game I'd like to mention is Isabelle from 1999. A very strange PC adventure game. ![]() ![]() It is also a French-made 3D title with a 3rd-person gameplay in a colorful environment. The graphics are made of flashy barebones polygon graphics, the setting and characters are weirdly surreal, a mix of Saturday Morning Cartoon and abstract modernist paintings. In order to understand what is going on, it helps to use your instinct what and who is what. The characters speak in weird "Sims" dialogue. The only actual dialogue you can understand is from a narration between the protagonist and his girlfriend (the titular Isabelle), who are recalling the events of the game and describing what happens. It is almost "vaporwavey". |

In our world, we put a message inside a bottle to protect it while it travels through the oceans to reach some other island. In other worlds, they put a message inside an asteroid to protect it while it travels through space to reach some other planet. In this case it is a gift, a guitar, rather than just a message. |

How many more times will you remember a certain afternoon of your childhood, some afternoon that's so deeply a part of your being that you can't even conceive of your life without it? Perhaps four or five times more, perhaps not even that. How many more times will you watch the full moon rise? Perhaps twenty. And yet it all seems limitless." --- Paul Bowles |
