He meant using the LbaWin instead of DOSBox for the Windows versions.

I don't have the numbers, but considering it was ported to PC-98, FM-Towns, and the PlayStation, I'd say the numbers had to be high enough, since after all porting the game to all these platforms costs money and no company would have been willing to spend that money if it wasn't the fact they could expected a reasonable revenue.

Yeah it is pretty annoying they ignored LbaWin after all the hard work put into making it. Also I offered them on their Facebook page to somehow include or at least give links to translations of LBA and I got ignored.

The Hebrew translation works on the enhanced LBA1 version too, btw.

- ChaosFish: The fact you got ignored IMHO clearly shows they don't care much. They just probably got the most common versions of the games from torrents (how else would an American company get European editions of both games), slapped DOSBox on them, and called it done.
As I said once already, we here at the MBN would have done it much better, AND charged much less for our service. I think if we charged zero and gave all the money to Fred, we could get away charging half the price everyone else charges, while Fred & co. would get just a much, and users would get a much better done release too.

Can't agree more with Battler.
It was a shame on the first release of GOG not seeing the custom translations, and for sure a disappointment when no LbaWin was provided.

American company?

99% sure Steam/Valve doesn't personally handle any of this stuff. Its DotEmu are doing the enhanced edition, and given thats whats on Steam I assume they handled the other uploads too.
DotEmu is french.
GOG meanwhile is just a division of CD Projekt, which is Polish.

Gah ! I feel dumb

I'd say, why having done a port/pre-configured DOSBox here would've been more profitable to people and earned Fred a better percentage, I think we wouldn't have gotten even half of the coverage LBA has now
(Our first 4 buyings not included of course )

- Darkflame: But Steam/Valve get percentage of revenue, right? So we're still devolving valuable money to Americans instead of keeping more inside Europe.

And my point is, Fred would have earned the same percentage had we done it (if not even more), while the price charged for the games would have been lower, and the quality of the releases higher. And as regards reaching people, it's not hard - we have talented people here like Darkflame who could have made an awesome YouTube video that would have reached many.
Maybe it's time the MBN stopped having this inferiority complex and gained some confidence that it can do something.

They get 30% for hosting I would assume. 90% sure its all automated though. Valve wont be picking whats put online, they will at best do a check or too to make sure it isnt some virus and a real game. So they wouldnt have any controll over, say, finding and using LBAWin rather then DosBox.

Quality of release, certainly. We could make a lovely package. I could knock up a trailer too, sure.

Id be less sure we could sort the legalities out and set up a e-commerce solution for selling to people. Thats what Steam/DotEmu/Gog supply.

Maybe they should realize that at least LBA 1 was immensely popular in Japan and 130 million potential players in Japan would gladly bought the game if they only released the Japanese version too, which would only mean more money for Fred & Co.
And the Western releases would benefit immensely from LBAWin, as the sound quality would be superior, and it would perform better than DOSBox.
wow it's been such a long time that i played the game...

is the lbawin version the best version out there? I need to dig up my copy and play it again..

Along with some nice in-game options (screen relative movement, no fade between scene transition and wall-hit disable, but we don't need that last one )

LBA1 for PC looks pretty good! It's awesome that they make tutors and more friendly controller (as I understand), and other updates, which sound sweet. But... No Russian language, of cause they'll never come to my home country, sad. Twinsen can't learn swim and speak Russian (I dislike our unofficial localisations).

I need to take some comissions I think for buy both of them before New Year... but...
It's very sad, but I still never played LBA1 by some reasons (cause I still scary to do that) :\ My mind conflicting between my curiosity and ubnormal fears. I learned about LBA1 after ~6 years since I played in LBA2. LBA2 became my favorite game ever, but things I so like makes me so rattled when I see new features.

I wanna see LBA2 in the same massive update as LBA1 (LBA2 plot not makes me scary, huh)

Yep, it's still alive. And I'm still gonna upload to there any LBA translations/fonts/dubs you'll send me. Just use the guide over there to compile your spell fixes and send it my way.

Thanks, but I have Russian version (without voices), but dream about official localisation. ^^
One girl from the Russian VK-group for LBA asked me to make shots with my first LBA disk, I need to share it here too. ^^

Yep, it's piratical X) I did not beat it (this disk are about 17 years old). My father buy it for me at Moscow when I was 11. ^^ Was fixed with a skotch tape.
