Proposal: ban pictures of Twinsen

Is most branches of the Islamic faith, it is not permissible to make pictures of Mohammed.

In the fictional world of Twinsun, Twinsen is seen as something of a hero - a prophet, even.

Therefore, I propose we ban pictures of Twinsen on the MBN. I think it essential for our future wellbeing.

Thank you for listening,

CS2x

Agree. And we should also ban the letters: e, i, n, s, w, t

There is a statue of Twinsen and Zoe in LBA2 so Twinsen images are not banned in Twinsun.

I enjoy your threads so much
I agree with ElMuerte, in Judaism, pronouncing god's no in vain shouldn't be done, we should therefore not write down the Heir's name in vain on the MBN.

Banning the letters is a bit extreme though, hard to write without "e"

- Polaris: Fun fact, the ban on pronouncing The LORD's name was a misinterpretation when the Jews switched from Hebrew to Aramic - in Biblical Hebrew, the commandment meant "Thou shalt not blasphmete the name of YHWH Elohim." but in Aramaic, it was misinterpreted as "Thou shalt not pronounce at all the name of YHWH Elohim.".

Modern Jews take this to an extreme, to the point they will not even pronounce Adonai or Elohim outside formal prayer, and instead, replace them with either HaShem ("The Name") or nonsense such as "AdoShem". They also tend to write G-d instead of God in English.

Meanwhile, Christianity seems to have reverted to something closer to the original interpretation: "Thou shalt not say in vain the name of The LORD thy God.". And Christianity, much like Islam, seems to have have made "God" (and its various translations) God's name (Allāh is Arabic for "The God", a contraction of Al-Ilāh).

If we want to extend this to Twinsun, then it is Sendell's name we should not be pronouncing in vain (if we use the Biblical Hebrew and Christian interpretations) or at all (if we take the Aramic/Modern Jewish interpretation).

The Twinsunian religion does have some parallels with Islam and other Abrahamc religions, eg. the Children's song goes "Sendell is the prettiest", which is to say, the greatest, which recalls the Shahadah of Islam: "Allāh is the greatest! There is no god but Allāh and Muhammad is His Prophet!". Also, FunFrock is called a "dirty beast", the "beast" recalls Emperor Nero (Hebrew Gematria: NRW QSR (from Latin Nerō Caesar) = 616, NRWN QSR (from Greek Nerōn Kaisar) = 666, both attested, 616 before 666) who is the "beast" of the Book of Revelation. One could not buy or sell without the mark of the beast, and one could safely assume that during Dr. FunFrock's regime, the Kashes coins without which one could not buy or sell, bore his depiction and name.

Even more uncanny is the fast that Dr. FunFrock a.k.a. Dark Monk. a.k.a. Kard'n'kom (for the reference, that's an anagram of Dark Monk) had a (fulfilled) prophecy that he was exiled and would return, only to be defeated by Twinsen. This was in fact what was commonly believed about Emperor Nero after his death and is what the Book of Revelation is about - a revelation is made John of the future where Emperor Nero returned and unleased his brutally repressive regime again in Rome (the "beast on the seven hills" - Rome is on seven hills), only to be defeated by the second coming of Jesus. Both the Book of Revelation and the Zeelichian prophecy say that the world would then become paradise.

Meanwhile, the story of Zeelich being born from a union of Zeer (the Sun) and Lich (the Cold) recalls the Japanese story of Izanagi and Izanami whose union gave birth to the islands of Japan.

Thank you; at least someone does! :-)

Battler, your response here is rather amazing. You really do do some genius posts connecting the religious, political and Twinsuniun dots.

I’m also very interested in the history of Judaism, Christianity and Islam, and in particular have long wondered about that mysterious command in what came to be known as the Ten Commandments, so that was a lovely bonus.

Since he is the boss of this sphere, perhaps we should implement el meurte’s proposed ban as a concluding act to the saga? It may seem like an extreme measure, and I’m not sure how effective tough love is, but we sure have got too free with our letters.

At the same time, as Battler has elucidated to us, the issue was never letters…
Hmmm…
