General question - Why remakes?
Hello there
Im new here, and originaly found this place by looking in google on how to save in lba1 (just started the game today, played only LBA2 so far and is one of my alltime favourite games at all) First wanna say something about me, Im 20 studying and also spend some of my spare time developing fan games "ReturntoMana" (Secret of Mana inspired game) and I worked 1 year in profesional industry, "crysis","ankh". So I came here with the idea also back in my mind that it would be pretty cool to have an LBA inspired game. And I see so many projects started or starting and Im quite surprised how many people share the same dream. So on my main question I want to know why so many use their creativity and spare time to recreate something existing and it also happens that people redo content that others did already (like I saw Twinsen´s house 3 times already). I also had the same problem with my project that started as a pure remake that turns out more and more a unique game now (also because of copyright issues). But isnt it already a waste of time to create something that others already did? Isnt what we all loved about the LBA universe that it was a unique world with strong characters strong environments, adorable atmosphere and alot of freedom to explore? Dont you agree that maybe even if we recreated the world of LBA in 100% detail it wouldnt be the same fun exploring it as it was the first time, because we know what to exspect already? So in consequence shouldnt we not invest the time into creating new worlds, with new characters that allow us to experience the same excitement we had when we played LBA the first time again? And to use LBA as a shining example of how to enjoyable a "game world" can be. ------------------------- I would love to share your thoughts and to hear what you say to that. And dont get me wrong Im totally excited to see the Lba content and moreover to see so many people that think the very same way about LBA I do ![]() For those who want to have a look at ReturntoMana (And I suppose many of you also know secret of mana) http://returntomana.org |

It saves automatically when you travel through different zones!.
Why remakes? - simple, nostalgia ![]() Also in the case of Jaseks LBA1 remake, once I get all the scripting done (which will be some time this year) we would be in a much better situation to make new stories, characters etc, as all the hard stuff would already be done. So making a remake gives you definable goals and requires less planning as we've all played the game and we all know whats supposed to happen. In an original project it would be the brainchild of one person so co-ordinating everything is much harder. |

Like bogbog said, it's something to do with having a readymade plan. If y'gotta make up something brand new, it's a lot of work; storyline, places, characters.
Plus, this remake will be better. ![]() |

Check out The LBA Prequel as well as LBA X, both of which are fangames with totally new and unique ideas/stories. LBA X even has a playable demo which looks great.

You know... I never thought one day these would apply not only to fan made projects by teenagers, but also to an official game studio and the very original creators of the games themselves.

![]() I think remakes aren't a problem in and of themselves, but they do need to be reinterpreted to some degree, after all, it is pretty amazing to see things we know lit in a new way. Take music for example. The best hommages aren't those that are like the originals as much as can be, but those who feel familiar yet different. In the case of 2.21 though, there are numerous problems, namely that the company seems more and more shady with each new announcement ![]() We should really make an LBA3 ourselves...

It is certain that "redo the same but better" doesn't seem to make much sense. Hopefully, they have different aspirations...

Currently each time they change their minds, they tell everyone, while if they were a bit less communicative, they would not create crazy expectations and fail them afterwards in a new announcement. But hey, we should probably just go with the flow and wait for the final product. Less expectations are always a good idea ![]() |
