Nothing new really, every once a while I get people to convince me that the world is just a dreamstate.

And interestingly they claim a star of david works against bad influences in dreams. Hmz, more commonly pentagrams were used for that. Hexagrams were for general protection as they often bared the name of god.

Ah well, unless someone has something terribly interesting to say to this, I suggest to let this topic die out.

Dreams are another layer of reality and we could well be liveing in a dream state when we think we are awake. In fact, the universe could be made from infinite layers of inter-linked realitys, each one only being "real" when you are expirencing that layer.

However, everything else is new age crap...and nothing answeres the questions of "What is the meaning of life?" & "Why are we here?" even if it was all true it would only push the questions back futhor. (much like relgieons)

Also heres a bigger question;
Why are mad-thoery sites always done in the worst fonts and layout humanly possible?

2 Things:

1) If dreams are real then I am in big shit with the dream police...oh yes

2) DF - How does religion push back the question of why we are here? Religion really helps one address those questions

Saying "God made it" only pushs back the question as to "What made God", you see.
If a universe is not allowed to exist forever, and we assume it had to be created, then why do we let the assumption that a creator can exist forever?
Why should a creator, who would have to be at least as complex as the universe, be allowed to exist automaticaly, but not the universe itself?
It just creates a new question.

As for the why and the meaning...I havnt actualy heard any religious person address that. They more cover what we should do, which is probably more important but not so interesting.

Why we are here is irrelevant because here and now is only a small part of spiritual existance, and if you believe that God is the Alpha and Omega you don't need to have a reason for His existance....It is a question of whether you want to trace back to something or nothing

Why not?
You can still believe he is omni-potent and want to know his origin.
Is it not possible that God is just a really good computer programmer?

And saying "it's irrelevant" or "you either believe or you don't" aren't considered answers to anything.

I personally believ that God is the before and the after - God is the universe and therefore there was nothing before because before God does not exist. It just so happens that I believe that Universe is infinite and God is infinite and that because of this God = Universe

The whys of life will be answered in good time imo. I am happy to have faith that God has a purpose for existance. That doesn't mean to say I don't sometimes ask why...but ultimately all enquiry leads me back to the same place.

I believe in a sentient universe myself, or at least, the possibility.
But you cant have a creator "make" the universe, because that dosnt work to explain anything.
The most likely event is that things started simple and got more complex (much like Conways game of life, in fact). At some point sentients emerged, maybe it was a fundimental of the universe. And maybe as such "god" is like a hive-mind of the universe.
But he didnt create it...not without narrowing the definition of universe to mean something other then "everything".

You can say "the universe existed forever" just as much as you can say "God existed forever". Neither really answeres the question, they just side-step it.

But you dont get an answere...only a promise of an answere.

Nothing, not religioen, nor science, not this mad weird guy at the top of the thread has come up with an answere to the "why" question or the meaning.
(not that meaning means anything itself, its a bit poorly defined,so you cant get an answere when you dont have a proper question)

Exactly. DF - I am not interested on whether the universe always existed as god or if God created a universe. The point is God does not need explaining because there is nothing before or after to explain.
