Thats an atomic clock? O_O I had no idea they could be made that small. We could have atomic wristwatchs at this rate
Or, at least, one day have hacker-experiments studying time dilation!

To my knowledge this is only real sci-fi style volumetric 3D system on the planet.
Doesnt show up too great in film, but its true 3d in mid air!

Very cool!

Not sure they need the color sensors - everything has a camera these days, but everything else is awesome and pretty new.
Hope they do well.

Might have to update my video sometime

Utterly amazing given the (frankly insane) landing procedure.
Incredible.

Fricking awesome Was watching the landing in a restaurant with a few friends on my phone, noticed that a few other people were watching too. NASA does it again (thought I really would like them to send something to Venus, of which we only have one old down-tilted USSR supplied image (pressure destroyed their equipment in no time)).

It brings a tear to my eye this stuff - that despite all the shit mankind can do to eachother we can also achieve astonishing things like this.
One of the team leaders said the defining features of humanity is curiosity and I couldn't agree more.

I also loved the fact you watched it on your phone - that stream probably going via a satalite to a few subservers, to nasas computers which was taking data from satalite orbiting mars and picking up signals from the rover. That in itself is amazing!

Oh, and +1 for venus.
I suspect the focus will be on mars for awhile though. I am all for manned exploration, but untill we can get launch costs down robots are just better value.

I was a tad disjointed to begin with, thought there would be a video feed of the heat shield coming off, then it slowly descending onto the red planet

I guess all the truly exciting stuff will come later, for curiosity it really was about landing this massive car like device using a completely automated insane multiple stage landing procedure on a rock 200 million miles away.

Venus would be a lot more exciting. Compared to Mars, it actually has an atmosphere, an incredibly active, extremely violent one. The problem is figuring out how to a)land an object is such turbulent weather b)how to withstand the enormous amounts of atmospheric pressure (it tends to vaporize most anything that enters its atmosphere).
