My Wall-E Soundtrack

Greetings all!

I recently (two days ago) finished my second year of university, ending in an intense 48 hour exam in which we had to create a complete soundtrack (so literally all the sounds, effects and music) for a small edited section of Wall-E supplied to us (silent, obviously).

Anyway, if you've got 3 minutes and want to have a gander, it's here on Facebook (everyone should be allowed to watch it I think).

*clicky click*

Comments and crits much appreciated as always.

Not bad, not bad at all.
An interesting, almost mysterious feel to it in some ways.

The only critisms I can think of are;

* Right at the start (0:04) when Wall-E sits down before being scanned. You have a sound for the movement, but their should be a slight sound for the sitting down too, seeing as it was quite sudden,

* perhaps the "collision" sounds were a bit too soft. Maybe a touch louder? possibly with a slight echo or reverb? not sure...just the impact should feel a little higher.

* At 2:13 when the containment shield (or whatever) keeping the other robots in turns of, it perhaps needs to be louder? (or the music software, or sounds for the other robots?). I think it needs to be more noticeable in some way because it didnt seem a clear enough reason for Wall-E to turn around.

Other then that, good work!

You're obviously a Wall-E fan and have seen it more than once unlike myself, I didn't really think of the laser cells shutting down making much noise (they were pretty quiet anyway in my version), and I just assumed from this clip he was turning round because EVE was looking past him.

Plus the slow-mo bit I really wanted to have a pause of sound but I guess I could have put something in. Otherwise I agree with you mostly, didn't really manage to come up with a metal-clinking sort of sound so I left a lot of that kind of thing out. And by collisions I assume you mean the driving robots crashing? Yeah I do think they should be stronger.

I'm not 100% sure myself. I just thought there needed to be some noise to trigger them turning around. The other robot (or diagnostic droid thing) also seems to pay more attention at that point too.

ah, thats fair enough though. Drastically reducing sound during a slow-mo is normaly quite effective.

The problem is that I'm so used to the original sounds and music, that I can't really apreciate your video. It seems... too quiet to me.

Well our task was to create a different narrative, so the story and mood is not supposed to be the same. I understand though if you've seen the movie a lot and know how it all goes.

I saw the movie only once and I still felt it was too quiet, or at least not varied enough for a scene with lots of robots. On the other hand, I suppose that's too much to ask in 48 hours, I imagine professionals that got paid to do the sounds took longer to do the entire scene.
