I think that, too. But I can't really explain why I think that. I just don't see Twinsen in Final Fantasy style (for example). LBA has a few RPG elements in it, and that's just what makes LBA so cool. It's just like Zelda (like DF said before), Zelda isn't really an RPG, but also not really an adventure. The same thing with LBA.

Besides, LBA should be adapted to the RPG style, so, you could just defeat simple evil creatures, so FunFrock would be a piece of cake. It has to be more balanced. But: Like I said, the mixture of a bit RPG (I.E. you get different kinds of magic) and adventuring makes LBA such a great game!

EDIT: I said: Besides, LBA should be...
I meant: Shouldn't be, it's clear in the context, though.

yeah. but i like the whole idea of EXP, it's cool that you can "train up" on games, and then be undefeatable.

I like LBA the way it is now: with a couple of RPG influents in it, but not too much (life, magic and magic level (color of the ball)).

EXP wouldn't be too good IMO... just the magic-levels system would be nice.

The thing that made LBA so great is the right combination between fighting/conversation/RPG elements/puzzels/story. To make it only RPG the whole game will loose it's "LBA-stylish" atmosphere.

Agreed.
People have been saying things like this about Zelda on the IGN forums.
Neither LBA or Zelda should have any more RPG elements added.

Well, we're the ones working on LBA3, check out our post in the 'Off Topic' forum.

I think it would be rubbish, personally.

Thumbs Down

I don't there should be changed too much in a new LBA. Just keep the gameplay, tweak it a little, but don't change more then that, except graphics, story and stuff.

So I don't like the idea of more RPG elements and earning experience.

The only RPG element I would like to see is that the more magic you use, the better you become at it....

and that's the ONLY one

Personaly any exp factor in LBA3 should be "real life" experience.
Your charecter dosn't get better at the game, YOU DO.
This would work if there was more skill involved with fighting and magic.
I'm not sure how this would work.

With the things you now say, the people don't agree. They agree with you saying:

I think bad

I don't think Twinsen should be able to buy armor and stuff. Rather let him find really uniek things that fit in the story, like his tunic and his ball. And don't give him to many weapons: it is non an action-game, so it isn't needed. The amount of weapons in LBA2 was enough, maybe even more then enough. Some weapons, such as the glove, you rarely use. But it is a fun weapon. So only if the weapons play a role in the story, and aren't "normal" weapons, I think they will fit in LBA, but still not too many.

well, i suppose. but it'd be nice if when you up up magic levels all your weapons increase in power, not just your ball.

Indeed, CrOvAx, I think so, too. And I think that is the general opinion, Starman.

i had an idea a while ago about what the plot of LBA3 could be. here goes...

At the end of LBA2 twinsen has a son (or daughter). This child could grow up to the age Twinsen is in LBA2. By this time Twinsen is an old man. Seeking revenge for his past defeats, Funfrock kidnaps Twinsen and his son/daughter goes off to rescue him on some other planet.

what do you think?

Tsk, and you call yourself a gentleman?

yeah but not just the weapons strength, it's effectiveness is general, after all, in real life, you also become better at using a weapon if you use it often....
So it's like, the more you use that weapon the more "combo's" you can make with it

well, Fred already said that their son would be 5 in the next game and you will be able to controle all 3 of them...

Miscarry? Sorry Alchemist, Zoe already had the baby though I don't really like the idea of a totally rpg LBA either, although I think the magic experience mentioned earlier wouldn't be a bad idea.

About the weapons, let Twinsen find them himself, which was great in LBA1 and 2 when you found the sabre etc.

I don't really like the idea of controlling 3 players (Arthur, Twinsen, Zoe) unless it was something like Day of the Dentacle when you needed certain characters to do certain things.

I think it is an overal nice approach ... and of this time.

LBA3 could be an RPG ... it increases the interaction, and makes the game a bit more logical .. Twinsen has to learn his abilities.

RPG's don't mean more interactions.
I'm a big fan of Buldars Gate, and other AD&D based RPG's, but its just not LBA.
--
The fact most people seem to be missing, is that although the charecter dosn't get any stronger or faster , you, the player, does.
LBA dosn't need experience points "in game", because you get better at the game in real life.
I think this should be enhanced by giving the player more controll over everything (manual fighting, ball throwing, sword fighting).
