EEK

another smart guy damn I didnt know any of these endings LOL

Hey Zman3D welcome to the Forum

If you want information about stuff that are related to 3D
(then just stand infront of it and press action )

Then Talk to Phoenix or Darkflame or DarkStealth

If you have ICQ you can have Phoenix there
I dont know if the other 2 have ICQ

(and next time write this post in a better section but oh well.. )

The 3D models from LBA can't be viewed yet, nobody has written a 3D convert program yet...

Smile cool :)

wow
its nice to see there's actually some activity going on around this forum

i wasnt sure there will be ... anyway , i think i should present myselft better now that i know there is.

i'm an experienced 3d artist. i focus mostly on doing gameart (my soon to be opened site - artofgaming.net)

here are a few of my image renders ehich i did before for the games starcraft, tiberiun sun and doom :

http://beyond.fsgs.com/zmanrenders/therunofyourlife.jpg

http://beyond.fsgs.com/zmanrenders/aogimage.jpg

http://beyond.fsgs.com/zmanrenders/thehive.jpg

http://beyond.fsgs.com/zmanrenders/terrancity2.jpg

http://beyond.fsgs.com/zmanrenders/hoverattack.jpg

http://beyond.fsgs.com/zmanrenders/doom2000.jpg

anywayz i just run into my good ol' lba2 cd and decided to play it for a while. i got hung on the nostalgy and finished the whole thing in 2 dayz
after finishing it i said to myself damm that game's got athmosphere ! i gotta at least make 1 kick ass image of it!

i had a few ideas such as putting all the characters from the game togheter in a kick ass high res image... but that would take alot of modeling time which i dont have... so i thought hey this game is 3d so there's gotta be a viewer for it somewhere so i could convert the 3d files to a more familiar format (dxf,3ds,obj,lwo or whatever ...)and then modify the characters and touch em up ...

well too bad no one's ever made a viewer yet cause if u would i promise high quality kick ass images and movies !

p.s. there's an image around here of someone having the entier first level in the 3d rendering package "maya" .
i was sure u imported it somehow from the game ...

u can say an average of about (a lil' more then) a week.

anyway like i said, if someone around here will make a decent model viewer/converter i promise same quality of images and movies posted here shortly after.

start the pressure on the programmers around here

btw, my guess is that the 3d models are stored as ldc files

Check out my images in I-Drive and Yahoo (see below)

I think we should start making a Relentless Movie,we have the artists, the music, the texture utilites, and more then enought story writers.
Check out http://lba.3dup.net (I only started making it a few days ago, its still very WIP)

Incredible work, Zman3d! Welcome to the board.

Well, I don't know anything about 3D stuff so I guess I can't help you much further. For ss much as I know, the 3D sprites of LBA are a mistery to all of us.

Great To see all the support, I am trying to get hold of a piece of 'Voice Morph' software. It allows one purson to sound like another (withen resin).I thought we could try to use it for Twinsen.
Problem is (unlike image morphs) the software is hard to find.

I will set up a special form on the site, so people can sign up to be Actor/Script/Storybvoard/Modelar/Texture Artist ect.

Hmrz... isn't this kind of "community projects overkill"?
I mean, we have the mod and the compendium already, is there any room left for a movie?

Not that I don't like the idea... a movie would be cool.

[/plain old negative]

Lightbulb ok back to the issue at hand ...

lets look at things realisticly
nobody around here got the time to start modeling all those characters ...
but if all the programmers around here would be able to make a 3d converter then we could make soem seriusly kick ass stuff.

i could animate the characters my self and the levels are allready there + we (artists) could put some additions to them and then we could make something like the return the zeleech or something like that well written and planned.

but it all has to start with being able to use the 3dmodels in the game

otherwise there's nothing to talk about here.

Hey zman, saw you at the Little Big Adventure board erlier.

You used 3d Max, right?

I create landscapes (usually on Bryce 3d), so I wouldn't know much about modeling.

I think I am being realistic (people here where talking about making a'LBA3' game, now THATS unrealistic).
I would like an Relentless (LBA-1) based Movie, because In my opuoin it had the better plot and atomosphere.
----
Unfortunatly Ell is the only REAL programmer as far as I can tell, I know VB6 but thats useless for any 3D extraction.I am trying to laurn C++, but I am just at the 'hello world' stage.
The only way of 'fast' modeling is using Canoma, which converts multiply angle screenshots to 3D meshs (with textures). It seems to work OK for landscapes, but you get a horriblbly arranged wireframe mesh when you try to edit it.
It wouldn't help much anyway, Game meshs as very low detailed and can be reproduce very quickly using max.Just use the old Cube/Meshsmoath/extrude technich.
The hard part is getting a Bone/Inverse Kinitics set up.If we just make the main charecters detailed (Twinsen,Zoe ect) we could then make 4 'genrel' charecters for the species. Then we just make Modificas to the templates as we need them.
----
As for my movie project:
I am not talking game CGI quality graphics, or a 3 hour epic.Just a small (1/2 hour?) movie of the first game.We will be able to re-use alot of the cutscenes and we enough 3D Modalars here to make resonble quality graphics.
----
Anyone wishing to join the project see:
http://lba.3dup.net (still under construction)
---
MAYA is a VERY expensive 3D programe. (I thought I said that before?)

Zman, great images... the guy that was working on the citadel island in Maya was 3Developer, also an experienced 3D guy. He mailed me yesterday and told me that he's very busy working , and that he may release more great stuff in the future...

Darkflame: cool idea..

My experience is 3D programming is very limited, so I don't know how adeline stored their 3D objects...
I have suspissions that the game chars in LBA2 were made with SoftImage

Ok, nice pics Zman, I take it that really you specialize in character modeling and animation rather than architectural conctruction. If so, it should only take you and hour (max) to make each LBA character.

Well Darkflame, you know i'm in on it. And I think it's a great idea, 30 minutes is an ideal length.

As for converting the 3D models in LBA2, I may have someone that can do this. He specialises in deciphering proprietary 3D formats by finding out which bits refer to vertices (x,y,z positions) etc.. I'll send him one of the model files and leave it with him.

Darkflame, Canoma may be ok for just making a 1 view render of a 3D scene but it would be useless if you were to move the camera around, because only the front view of the terrain is going to be modelled. The quickest way is to draw a b/w topographical image of the terrain and then load it as a relief map, I did it for Desert Island, it needs modification and building on but it gives a good initial base.

my guess is that adline did it with 3dstudio (NOT MAX) but the much older dos relese. same as other game developers back then. i dont think maya/softimage were developed back then.

actualy i specialize at realistic lightling and special effects and really dont like to model stuff lately.
also, i got my site to work on which is alot.

the characters are not very complex to model at all with box modeling but i'm really not into modeling all the characters from scratch.

btw what's that 3developer doing it for ?
is he doing it for fun or proffesionaly for the next LBA3 or something

I agree with Phoenix, about Canoma. I just sajested it because it is quite a clever bit of software.
Its useless for detiled work.

Just to make it clear, I want to make a short film OF relentless.
I what to do relentless for the following resins:
1) Better plot.
2) More atomoshperic, so more approperated for a movie.
3) Easier. Because LBA1 had a lot of Clones in it, we have an good excuse for all the enemies of one type looking identical.
4) I what to 'expand' on the plot slightly, explaning HOW funfrock rose to power and also a showing the 'Gensis of Twinsen'.I would like to do this in a expaned 'intro' to the film (Like the LBA intro, only with out the text).
'
and yes I am a 'crazy geek fan'
