Do you think if the graphics are that good, that they'de still put motion cinematics in it? or just have pre co-ordinated 3d sequences(like at the end of LBA2 when Twinsen is talking to Funfrock).

I quite didn't get what you wanted to say. Can you explain it better, please.

I mean, most 3D games these days don't have real animated motion video because it will takes up alot more memory than if they just directed the ingame models what to do, like when Twinsen is talking to Funfrock at the end of LBA2, It is not an actual animated movie but just a scene where the Twinsen & Funfrock game models are being programmed to move at the correct timings. What i'm saying is; in LBA3 do you think they will put real video on the CD, or will they just have no movies in it and replace it with what i was saying above; with just realtime 3D sequences.

I wonder what media they'll put it on... DVD rom? Fred's seems to like puting his games on the latest media, like with 'Alone in the dark' and 'LBA1', CD's were fairly new then, and not many people had them, maybe the same with TP...

In other worlds, they put a message inside an asteroid to protect it while it travels through space to reach some other planet. In this case it is a gift, a guitar, rather than just a message.

Eh. They'll still keep the cinematic movements. Afterall Final Fantasy still do them dispite their graphics are over the top... although they cut down a bit. And without cinematics there wouldn't be any of Twinsen's goofy expressions! o.O

I think, that it will be like in the Tomb Raider series: no cinematics, just realtime 3-D sequences, as cinematics really take up too much space (note: there are also no cinematics in the Grand Theft Auto series).

Tomb Raider was boring... Plus my favourite part in games are cinematics... I don't think they should deviate from the theme that the games had. And Also I would think that the twinsen will still be too small to really have a very engaging "movie sequence" with the avatars.

True, but movie compression technology has really improved, Like i have downloaded episodes of South park, 22 minutes long that are about the same size as the LBA2 cinematics(frame size), and they are only 36 mb(real media format). And have you seen the cinematics in Diablo 2? they look DVD quality, and all up run for 26 minutes long! Although the movies are all on one CD(except for one which is on the play disk) So 26 minutes on a whole CD, that is pretty good. But i think by the time LBA3 comes out they would release it on a DVD disk, as they would probably be alot more widely used then.

1. South park is 2-D.
2. Maybe at the time, when LBA 3 is released, maybe there will be some new type of discs, some kind of S-DVD (Super DVD), which will be twice as big in disk space.

What do you mean south park is 2D? LBA1&2 movies are 2D, They are computer animated models, which have been prerendered into frames, so they are in the end still 2D videos. And i don't think Fred would need a super DVD for LBA3, 4.5 + Gigabytes is enouth apposed to the 0.48 gigabytes LBA2 took up on the disk.

He means 2D as in, non-shaded...flat.
Which means less colours...which means small file size's.

Cartoons can be stupidly compressed, in fact.
They can fit 4 cartoons onto a Gameboy cart and sale them for $20 in the US.
GBA carts can go upto about 64MB....but you can bet those cartoons are just on 8MB ones. (price-wise, 64MB just wouldnt be profitable)

However, i agree in principle.
I think no-new format is needed for new games.
We already have a hugggeee amount of space...better compression (i luv my divx)...and real-time cutscreens can look as good as FMV these days.

And, hopefully...games will be getting smaller..not bigger.
Check this out:
http://www.theprodukkt.com/werkkzeug1.html
A fractualy and procedral based engine.
Result:
games sized about 70kb
http://www.theprodukkt.com/theprodukkt.html

I think as processing power goes up, the space required for games goes down.
As long as the coders are good enough, that is

I sure hope so, because the demo disk magazines you buy these days have squate on them, i have a 1997 PC user magazine software disk that has 50 playable demos (including twinsen's odyssey (which is the way found out about LBA)) on one CD. But the recent PC user issue came with only 4 demos on 1 of the cd's. Talk about a small selection, which is probably why most games out these days don't last long on the shelve because no one knows about them.

I used to collect demo discs when they were good and had lots of stuff on them, Igot alot of games through that process. But I didn't find LBA that way. LBA 1 was the first computer game I ever got. :/
