The force is not with me :(

I just couldn't stand seeing that lba directory every day. So I coulnd't force myself to delete it. I am now spending some time every day coding the ... Lba3D engine!

I started to rewrite much things. So things will work faster. While I am doing this, you could take some time and help me, mad_aeon, and DeVKiNG with models, music and textures.

P.S
No, we are not working together on a project, but I consider these projects as friendly projects.

Well, that's a good idea. But all those that spend time on looking at the project news could help. Mad_Aeon didn't have any helping hand

Yeah, but I already have kind of my own (half-dead) project, LBA-DM. It's really frustrating making something and than it's pretty useless. Luckily there's some work being done on it again...

I will open a site very soon. Though now Lba3D is more an engine oriented project than a game oriented one. So don't except anything beyond tech demos for some time.

Hi guys,

I feel some frunstrations spread around here... and also a lack of members and support. Sounds like the juce is a bit gone on this project...

Well it's maybe all true, but let's try to change this!

Wherever I can help, I'll try to do so
Just give me insite in what you want to do, where you are, what you have etc...

Hehe. Nothing is gone. The project is just in the stages of engine design. That is actually the main project's goal, to make an engine suitable for MBN users to make their own games with ease. If you want to help, you will need to recreate scenes from lba. But because of the specs of my engine, I prefer open spaces with real size buildings with the interior in them. How can I contact you for help?

I prefer that too as its a) Rare in a game
and b) nicely realistic

But surely it isnt that hard to do "Tardis Effects" in an engine?
Simply including "warps" is all thats really needed.
(ie. When player is in an area, take him to a different one)

You could have included "FP" in the list, because I feel more than loony for such a big thing (piouh, I've just noticed that it took 7 years to develop KAENA, the first french 3D movie, whereas they quickly got a real team and stuff. Wtf it's not won at all....

Perseverance (dunno if well translated) seems to be the most rare virtue in the world, just before good will.
Good luck and have fun, if any help needed ask me.

Why should I do that? If I already have a way to do it all in same map with optimizing and stuff?

Why do you want to make a new engine?
Is there a special reason?
There are so many game engines available

Ever looked to RF?
It's free, full open source, close to quake 3, needs no real programming, is easy to use, is very well supported and has a real active forum

I've worked a while with RF now and know most of their tools
RF knows 1st, 3rd and isomethric view and can also work with a set of fixed camera's, that can be switched. This last idea comes pretty close to how LBA works. Sounds worth to give a try, not?

Making a game is very time consuming. I therfore rather want to focus on the game and creating it rather than making a new engine, or do I see this totally differnt then most of you?

The way hes engine is planed will make it easier for an MBN game to be made...hes making a method to make the game, rather the the game itself.
Theres many advantages to that approch.

Xakep_INC~ I didnt say you should, you seemed to imply your engine couldnt, thats all

Sorry, but I'm not familiar with some terms you use

What is an MBN game?
And what is "Tardis Effects" ?

Thanks !

The Tardis was Doctor Whos Time-traveling Poliece phone box, it was much bigger on the inside then the outside

It could, but it will be much more annoying. Due to the nature of 3D scenes, there are more tricks with buildings when you are using this way of doing it. Some problems with loading the interior might be loading times, or if I use tricks the problems could be some bugs. It's easier to implement the "real interiors" and optimize it.

First of all. What is the RF engine? What's the full name? Home page?

Second of all is that I want to make not a "shooter" engine but a more "RPG" or "Third Person" oriented engine, to use in the MBN community. I am making a world editor as well. But that's a secret :P

RF stands for Reality Factory, see http://www.realityfactory.ca/html/

RF supports 1st, 3rd person, isometric and fixed camera games
Can be used for RPG, shooters and more

Knows pawns, including a programming language to fully control them
Knows in-game movies
Knows change-level
Knows many entiries for effects like rain, flames, doors, moving platforms, particles, moving textures, picking up attributes and much much more
Knows conversations, including conversation script language
Knows inventory
Includes 3 world editors
Includes terrain generator
Includes texture packer etc....
AND 100% FREE, INCLUDING THE FULL SOURCE
and has a very active forum + nearly monthly new improvements + updates + pretty stable + several demo's for download
What do you want more?

It's a very complete package with all the things you need to make a game, except the 3D modeler, for which you best use milkshape (seems to be known well here)

Duh... Let's point it like that: I want an engine for my own customized needs. A full commented easy to use engine, that I know ALL about and that I can change whenever I want. Let's say that I want expirience, and I want to have fun. Enough for you :P? Those who want to start making a game can do it with this engine. It's great indeed.

No problem. Your choice.

As long as it brings fun, it's OK for me
And if you ever change your mind, they are looking for programmers for RF as well.

I'll rather focus on the game
Good luck!

If you like to see some pictures of models / a first basic room made in RF, just go to the Magic Ball Network Forums > LBA Projects > LBA DM > LBA DM Development > "re-birth", in page 3, 3 big pictures

Hope you like it !
