NDS wifi support is simply crap.

NDS is powerful enough to handle WPA even WPA2
whats really annoying is the DS already gets a lot of bad publicity as a "tool for pedophiles", same with the Wii.
So nintendo will probably never improve their online services much in fear that they'd get accused of continuing to aide pedophiles

yeah, their was one funny article that claimed pedo's in cars would use the local wi-fi system while on a motorway to get to your child >_<
Its PEDOGEDON!
===
Still, Im sure unlike the ds, the Wii's online will be updated. The Wii's firmware has been updated a few times already, after all. Nintendo has deals with Gamespy and has a few companys wanting to make MMO's on the wii.
Nintendos just slow, but they will get there in the end.

The Wii, after all, is pretty good online already. (Its probably the cheapest internet-on-your-tv style device)
Its just not good at games online yet

Good luck to them, even if you saw someone playing on a DS - if you went to pictochat chances are they wont be on it.

it was fox news item (iirc), which was quite awful and nothing more than the usual scare mongering:
http://youtube.com/watch?v=orpgUPNSRPI

anyway.. for local networks nds doesn't use Wifi
but also, children are much more safe when they use a wifi network that uses WPA

You cant apply logic to fox. (or well, any news story along these lines)

No no, they can hackorz it remotely and hyptotise your child ver the camera on the ds!

nope, that just means their computer is safer

Quote:

It uses something called ni-fi, which dosnt exist.
Seems to be a lower powered simple wifi protocal, as the system cant do bluetooth.
There was some homebrew someone that recieved picochat stuff on the pc screen, but it needed custom drivers for your wireless card i think. (was a long time ago)

About Pictochat.. I loaded it up today in college and found Room 1 & 2 were full and Room 3 had 2 people in it.

I'm probabily thinking of getting a USB connector. I have Windows XP.. well arrgh.. I actually got Windows XP x64.
Yes its called XP, but x64 version is based of Windows 2003 server.. the other was based of something else. - I got glitches with old games because of this.. On Teamspeak it says I'm on Windows 2003 server!

My wireless router has WPA2 I think.
It does mention WEP, but its got so many options.. and Nintendo has lame support indeed. I just got told by their Technical team, 'are you sure you turned it on?' - common! This is not the IT crowd, I know the basics.. but it still doesn't make me a genius at networks..

My DS can see my neighbours network and I'm told they have a similar network, so I'm wondering if I haven't set it up properly.

Edit: Neighbours isn't compatible.. just they don't turn or use theirs.. They leave their computer on.. and the wireless (passworded).
I got mine to appear.. but it says its 'incompatible build' by the NDS.

Well, if you want to enable wep, its just a mater of setting it, then typeing in a password in the first box (normaly theres 4), and then setting the same one on your DS. Theres lots of options, but most arnt needed. (make sure both devices use the same channel)

And when IS season2 of the ITCrowd anyway, getting impatient.

I'm sure they confirmed a second series somewhere...
*goes googleing*

http://www.channel4sales.com/news/ho...month=3&id=380

Quote:
Channel 4 today confirmed that it has commissioned a second series of The IT Crowd.

The critically-acclaimed sitcom, which is produced for Channel 4 by Talkback Thames, is written by Graham Linehan whose previous credits includes co-writing Father Ted and Black Books and is produced by Ash Atalla, best known as the producer of The Office. The series has been re-commissioned by Channel 4 Head of Comedy Caroline Leddy.

The IT Crowd is currently being broadcast on Channel 4 on Friday nights and the current series comes to the end of its six show run on Friday 3rd March. The second series has been extended to eight 30 minute episodes and is likely to air on C4 during 2007.

so, gee, 2007, thats helpfull.

Just leave most on default.

It dosnt mater what channel you pick, as long as the ds is also set to the same thing. (say, both on "11").

Good channels are 1, 6 and 11
Although 1 or 6 is advised, because 11 is not within the US range, no idea why, it simply is.

can anyone recommend me some nice homebrew apps? Something to play GBA roms with would be nice. ScummVM I've got, kicks ass with touch screen. Lastly, I'm looking for an organizer. Anyone?

to play GBA stuff you need a slot2 device

scummvmds is great, with the exception of the poor text quality due to scaling, anyway, it plays much better than on my smartphone

don't know many other useful homebrew, well.. aircrackDS is useful, it'll allow you to crack a WEP key in a couple of seconds/minutes.
also, there's a DS port of cave story: http://community.livejournal.com/doukutsu/92406.html

btw... new R4DS firmware has auto DLDI patching not that it was such a major pain in the first place.

http://nintendo-ds.dcemu.co.uk/ is a good site of homebrew info

DLDI rocks.
Chasm is working to write a DLDI driver for the "Game & Media" card which is avaible in stores for under £20.

Allthough I'm quite happy with old GBAMP, a very very cheap slot1 device that dosnt need firmware cracking and will be in major shops could really expand the ds homebrew community. Could be very good in the long run for seeing stuff developed.

can anyone recommend me some nice homebrew apps?
DSOrganise ( MP3, Basic Webbrowser, IRC chat, Internet/Streaming Audio support, Calander, Address Book, Notepad/html editing, paint, wave recording,Nintendo DS Gamedemo download database and various other things)

Moonshell ( DPG video playback [which is like mpeg1/2], MP3, OGG, Midi [midi sounds great *if* you install the 60MB wavefont too], text with bookmarks, jpeg, gif,png and about a dozen other audio/image formats)

DSOrganise is THE organiser, put simply, nothing else comes close.
Its the only software with real file-management features.

Moonshell is an essential media player, imo, allthough I also use it as my main booter. It has the fastest interface to get to files, imo.
(allthough, its worth noteing, DSO can boot a few things Moonshell cant)

Other apps I like;

DSmail - Pop3 email client.
BeUP - MSN messenger clone
Draw3.nds - Simple but nice drawing app, had a smudge feature DSO's paint dosnt. Saves to PNG.
DSFTP - Basicaly, lets you use the DS as an ftp server. Usefull when you need to copy little files.

Id also recomend the following;

NesDS - best NES emulator ever. Use it for Mario Bros, Zelda, and the other 15 odd NES games worth playing

Lameboy - GBC emulator. Apperently the GBC Zelda games now work fine, which are well worth playing. Allthough not as good as "ZeldaDX" which is the GB(monos) Links Awankeing, and probably the best GameBoy game ever.

Spout.nds - Simple but very very addictive little rocket game.

The site El recomended is good, but also goto
www.dsdev.org and look on the "DS Homebrew Announcements" section.

what's with the aircrack? I've been trying to get it to work but couldn't, and finding a decent readme is next to impossible..

aircrack is a wardriving application, you can use it to get a hold on the WEP key for a WiFi in range.
