Well it's just a guideline of the total. In total we have 2,000 members, and 1m/2k=500.
And I'd already donate at least four times that much, and if more of us do that, we wouldn't need all members.

Minimum 50, but depending on factors that might go up.

Really depends what it is exactly - full game or episodes, being the most important factor.

I just smacked down 50 euros on this kickstarter as Eternal Darkness ranks very close to LBA in my favorite games of all time list. So I know for LBA Id do at least the same.
