Woo! But I don't have a webcam. If I had one I would also buy goggles and attach them to walk around in an augmented world. (wait, this sentence didn't make sense)
Anyway, AR is coming. The day is (bzzbzz) near. Muhahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

anyway, I got how this works ... after you cut out the paper provided by the PDF, the software detects it if you have it in front of the webcam, thus masking it with the fake 3D models ... also the rotation is possible because you actually rotate the camera around the paper or the paper in front of the camera and because the software automatically updates the rotation angles, the illusion is created

Here is a very cool example from a handheld console that completely bombed. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lfp8id6bpDU

Yeah, tis a pitty, The Gizmondo had a lot of potential with AR, but they failed to market that unique saleing point. (especialy as you can extrapolate motion from the camera...thus also letting games have tilt-senseing).
== *goes to try app*

One possible error;
One bug in AR toolkit based stuff is that it takes the first video-input device on your system. So if you have a video capture card and a webcam, it often takes the capture card but not the webcam >_< You can get around this by disableing the capture card in hardware manager before loading.

How much resources does this kind of thing take? Surely they could write a program for the iPhone...
#17
No that wasn't the problem
It showed the right video input but didn't put the models in neither the right ones nor the LBA ones. I reinstalled and tried it with my dad's cam and then it suddenly worked |

Ooh! This is spiffy. Great find. And nice modification! Very... forum-appropriate? xP
Funfrock would love this. He could FINALLY hold the world in his hands! *cue maniacal laughter*

What do you mean by physical base's ?
#22
That the brown base thing below the globe thing will be real, and only the globe will be augmented. Just like Holomap is supposed to be.

Oh right, and it should be somehow interactive... Maybe I'll do that someday with the ARToolKit... But not today, I need to focus on the chat program.

Mmm... i messed up the extensions so now windows thinks the *.mesh thingies are to be opend in Cinema4d but i dont seem to be able to get the default "unknown program" setting back.
![]() ---> So now the whole thing won't work anymore... ![]() How to fix this? or what is the correct prog to open *.mesh with? ![]() |
#25
How come it can't work ? The mesh files are supposed to be inside the .dat archives anyway (which are in fact zip files with a *.dat extension).
There is no correct prog to open the *.mesh. It's Ogre's model format so every game/application using the Ogre engine can potentially load *.mesh files. |
