Twinsen The great LBA multi-medium mega movie!

I had an idea for a silly, yet interesting, movie making method we could use to make a LBA film.
Taking inspiration from:
http://dorkshelf.com/2009/10/01/star...of-a-new-hope/
And:
http://attic.fishos.cc/collabfic/ann...nt.php?f=2&a=1

Basically we all make scenes using any style, method or tone we want whatsoever!
Live action, animated, CG, stop-motion, flash, knitting... anything!

The goal isnt to be professional, its to be creative

Long or as short as we want too. Serious or silly - Just as long as your scene follows on from one already up you can do what you like!

You then upload to youtube and "reply" to the previous scene (that someone else made) with the one you just made.
If you want to do a scene that someone else already did thats fine too! Just reply to the one previous to that instead. So it works much like Choasfishs branching story idea.

In this way we dont have to plan in advance either, and scenes can even be "inserted" easily (one person replies to one scene with a inbetween bit, then asks the original replier to reply to them instead).

I hope i have made sense! I think it would be really fun to try to get lots of different styles

What do people think?

I think it's a nice idea, but instead of replying to youtube uploads I think it would be nicer for us to actually have a pre-made story onto which at some point we might actually finish the film and edit everything together.

(I know, strange this is coming from me, the starter of collab fic, but I think that for a film it'd make more sense to have a storyline that actually makes sense in the end and has a "followable" progression - then we have something palpable to show to people (ie: Fred & co.)).

"good luck with that" :-P

The RMP took years just discussing the story scenes. And even if you got that, surely an inconsistent constantly changing style would hardly fit together?
That said, you can try if you want ! - the ideas arnt mutually exclusive.

Theres nothing to stop playlists being made - and from that edited versions (you can do that straight in youtube even).
The key is for everyone to mark their work uploads as creative commons.

Depending how many submissions there are you could end up with more serious versions, more silly versions etc. Different remixs both for video/audio etc.

But I really think the best way to get this started is just to start. Have "anything goes".

This way we can just get started - we all have our most memorable bits of LBA, and we all know the order and how it ends, so it wont go on forever. At least, not in runtime - we could keep adding new variations/improvements forever.

One other thing...LBA 1 or 2? (maybe that should be a separate poll)

Well I was thinking something like the Star Wars Fan Remake you posted in yer 1st link. It doesn't really matter if it becomes inconsistent (since that's inevitable). We'd keep some small guidelines like: "minimum quality for audio and video: 640x480, 29fps, 44khz 16bits" and off we go.

Anyway, I think LBA 1 is nicer.

Well, then I think the way to do it is to pursue both.
Anyone can submit a reply to any part of the story, or they can make a section off a
preplanned list (and reply when someone has done any version of one before it).

I think as long as the following rules are stuck too it will give a lot of flexibility in end result:

* Every video uploaded should be tagged "MBNLBA1" so others can find it easily.

* Must be marked creative commons so it can be edited and remixed freely by others.

* Tag it also with the medium you used (Filmed,Stopmotion,CG etc)

* If its clear cut, also tag it with the mood (Silly,Serious)

If everyone does these things we should be able to easily make mini-films nicely put together as the result.

Most importantly though, we need more people to commit to do this. There is a poll at the top!

I like this idea! Plus, later we can download the CC versions, edit them into a non-linear editor (like Premiere or Final Cut) and them reupload as a single movie... Plus, all the versions, etc... I like that!

Indeed
Once we have a nice selection it would be good too add music etc.
(might be an idea for people to either upload without music, or to do a non-music backed one too, else we wont be able to blend scenes well in terms of audio).

Yep, another good thing is that they put a message on description, saying we can use it for editing, etc (in case Youtube reject to put on the Creative Commons license)...
About the resolution, a good minimal can be 640x360, since it's widescreen and it would still allow 640x480 clips too...

I would be very happy of doing some part on the editing, if possible, take a look on my recent movie works on my Youtube, there's a playlist that I currently use to put these movie/film works (most are just shorts)...

Absolutely.*goes check out channel*
Id probably edit a version myself too though - I love editing :P
--

Need to advertise this project around more though - I am sure we will get more people once we get going, but we only got 5 commiters at the moment, we will really need double that at least.
Maybe we should post to the GoG forums.

Sure! Probably a few people who play it on GoG doesn't even know MBN exists...

When we get some progress and a sure that the project will get some progress, we can setup a small website for it, so there's a more visual way of advertise it...

Well, I made a post there but got no replies.
Still, 10 or so people should be enough to get started.

I'll make a simple "rules" thread next.

Great

If you are looking for inspiration as to what scenes to do, you could skim over lets plays, or the swede.
Just start either with your favorite/most memorable scenes or right at the start.
I might post a really quick first video to get the ball rolling.

Yep

I would like to make a frame by frame animation. But I'm not really sure about what. Any idea?
The one I have in mind is to make it as the game. Like if someone were playing. But it would be nice any suggestions.

Thank you.

Great Idea!

Hello Guys
I am a great fan of LBA, New here also

I liked the idea and would like to contribute
I can do flash, simple flashes i am afraid
I think I can voice-act also. since am not a native English speaker, so I would fit a role for foreign characters.

Fantastic! Welcome to MBN!
Thats perfectly fine on both points

Flash animations would be great (if you need help converting them to a video for youtube let me know...I think you can just export to a video these days though?)

As for voice acting, none of us are professionals so dont worry too much.
Maybe I should make a list of people willing to voice act so if anyone needs other people for voices they can easily see who can do it

Sounds great. I think I've got an understandable pronunciation, so if anyone wants me to give a voice to any female character, let me know You can add my name to that list if you want, Darkflame

I think I don't have a very good pronounciation :P
But I have pretty good studio-equipment for voice-recording so if you don't mind some small mistakes I may help, too.
