LBA 1 and 2 on sale at Steam!

LBA 1 (enhanced tablet version) and LBA2 (DosBoxed version) are now for sale on Steam!

LBA1 - Enhanced Edition is up for 5,99€ / 5.99USD
LBA2 - for 3,99€/3.99USD

Or both in a bundle for 7,99€/7.99USD

The description for the Enhanced LBA1 edition is as follows;

It should be noted that it can be controlled either a controller or mouse but not the traditional keyboard controls. Players wishing for the original control's can still buy the normal version on GoG.com however.
--
Even if you have a few copies of these classics already, all LBA fans should check out the Steam page and review/upvote for the games. Steam is a massive platform and getting LBA in front of more eyeballs can do nothing but help the chance for a 3rd game to get funded.

*update*

DotEmu has just posted that people buying the Enhanced Edition now get the old version free too.

Its cool to see these titles on Steam, although there does need some tweaking with these games as they do have a few issues from the start.

LBA1 Enhanced Edition: is pretty much the mobile version I got an Android and its okay, but control scheme bugged me on the PC as it doesn't feel right using the mouse for what would of been a touchscreen action.

LBA 2 Twinsens Odyssey: feels like the original game and might play very much like it on laptops or old computers, but its going to require some tweaks to the resolution to make playing it bearable as it tries to stretch across my screen with a terrible aspect ratio.

Despite those problems its good to see it on Steam, I mean Vampires:The Masquerade doesn't even run on Steam unless you manually add the unofficial patches and then once done you get to play the game and have steam community attached; potentially allowing chat, video streaming, etc.

I am not a fan of the mouse controls, however it should be noted that LBA 1 Enhanced can be played with a gamepad. Unfortunately the directions are not properly mapped to the isometric perspective ... i.e. if you press up-left, Twinsen runs at a 45 degree angle with respect to your screen rather than running correctly along the line of the in-game grid. Very bizarre. I have no idea why they didn't support keyboard direction controls!

Unfortunately the new version is also terrible for speedrunning, for a variety of reasons (not just the controls). So I'll be sticking with my gog.com version, although I am still happy to have paid for the new version, so long as at least some of that money is going towards Fred in order to fund LBA 3

I'm happy with my GOG version of the games but this news are incredible!! It means more exposure for LBA and, hopefully, more money for a future LBA3 Steam is, after all, the most popular digital distribution store for video games.

I was very disappointed at first when the original version was not included. Posted a review on Steam which I have since edited. I'll just copy and paste in the review in its current state here:

Quote:
It's fantastic to finally see the original Little Big Adventure on Steam! The "Enhanced Edition" now available on Steam contains a port of the mobile version along with the original emulated in DosBox. I really recommend getting this version not due to the mobile port, but rather due to the original bundled herein.

If you have never heard of this games series before and do not intend on playing the mobile port there isn't much more to say; stop reading now and get this gem! You won't regret it.

The intended main attraction of this "Enhanced Edition" is unmistakenly a port of the mobile version for Android/iOS and as of writing this retains the controls established for said port. Contrary to the original which is controlled by keyboard alone this Steam version can only be played using either mouse or a gamepad. While not being my preferred way of playing this game the mouse works mostly alright but detracts from the way I feel this game is meant to be experienced. Gamepad controls are severly underworked and bugged at this time, where control of the character is snapped at strange angles.

Showing evidence of misplaced priorities on part of the DotEmu team when porting this game from mobile to PC (read Steam), we can see that the main focus of this release has been a change of the aesthetics. I'm sorry to say but icons look like they've been made by a 12 year old trying out Photoshop for the first time and fails to retain the original feel of the game. The look of the menu have also been changed, having gone from the distinct LBA blue color we know and love to being gray and dull.

Now don't let the two paragraphs above get you down. This game is still fantastic and truely unique, it's a must for any gamer who may have missed it up until this point. Just don't play the "Enhanced Edition" at this point in time and instead launch the original version.

It's also well worth noting that all DosBox releases of LBA have issue in common with mistimed audio tracks (music) and poor midi quality out of the box. Just make a search for how to fix this on the forum here on Steam or on GOG and you should be home free

That's pretty awesome to see LBA being officially refreshed like this.

Probably a good idea to include link [link] and a screenshot [Click image for larger version

This is nice news indeed, but the no keyboard controls thing is a deal breaker for me, otherwise i'd be glad to get this on steam, even though i already own the gog copy. Maybe I'll get LBA 2.

Kin - You now do also get the classic LBA1 version (dosboxed with keyboard control) when you buy the enhanced version on steam.

True LBA fans aim to have a copy for every single device with screen in their house :P

(and if anyone gets it working on the Nintendo DS - thats one copy for each screen!)

But there are both versions included (keyboard / mouse or pad), so what's the problem?

Oh, did they update it now?! \o/
Is the control responsive though? Did any of you play with it and enjoyed the keyboard controls?

It's the same old LBA. Running in DOSBox.

I'm still appalled how all these distributors seem to largely ignore LBAWin, and how they pretty much also ignore any players that don't speak English, French, German, Italian, or Spanish.
Maybe they should realize that at least LBA 1 was immensely popular in Japan and 130 million potential players in Japan would gladly bought the game if they only released the Japanese version too, which would only mean more money for Fred & Co.
And the Western releases would benefit immensely from LBAWin, as the sound quality would be superior, and it would perform better than DOSBox.

They still haven't fixed the offsync issue with their DOSBox versions ?
Also, LBA sold that well in japan ? Do you have some numbers ?

I would guess they either arnt aware of its existence, or they think it would take more legal effort to use it ?

Legal effort ? Isn't it just some DOSBox configuration ? I should try to reconfigure it to see if it works...
